Nashville, TN – Today, Monday, March 23rd, 2020, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee established the coronavirus COVID-19 Unified Command, a joint effort to be led by Commissioner Stuart McWhorter, to streamline coordination across the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), Tennessee Department of Health and Tennessee Department of Military.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee reports Federal Assistance Coming to Three Counties with Major Disaster Declaration from Deadly Tornadoes

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has announced that Davidson County, Wilson County, and Putnam County will receive federal aid through an expedited Major Disaster Declaration as a result of the deadly March 3rd, 2020, tornadoes and severe weather.
“Local, state, and federal emergency officials and responders have worked tirelessly in a coordinated manner provide help and relief to our counties and communities,” Governor Lee said. “The myriad stories of Tennesseans who experienced this tragedy have been inspiring and heartbreaking, and my hope is some healing can now begin and we can be on our way to rebuilding our lives and communities.

Nashville, TN – As wildfires claim lives and destroy properties in northern and southern California, the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) extends its sympathies to the victims of the disasters and reminds Tennessee residents to always follow safety precautions during outdoor burns.
By not following safety precautions, wildfires can occur, wrecking property, destroying wildlife, and putting lives at risk. In the last five years (2013-17), Tennessee state fire department records show 3,141 unintentional fires resulted from outdoor burning and created over $2.8 million in property losses.
Burn permits required October 15th-May 15th.

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee National Guard sent a military police company to South Carolina today to assist residents of that state in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
More than 100 personnel of the 117th Military Police Battalion departed Athens, Tennessee this morning with the necessary equipment and supplies to operate for approximately two weeks.

Tennessee Emergency Management Agency releases Severe Weather update

Nashville, TN – A powerful storm front moved across Tennessee on Saturday, February 24th, 2018, and produced localized flooding, lightning impacts, and unconfirmed reports of tornado touchdowns. Several Tennessee counties have rescued individuals from damaged structures and transported those with injuries.
The State Emergency Operations Center in Nashville is activated at a Level 4 – Elevated status and staffed with Emergency Service Coordinators from many State of Tennessee departments with personnel providing direct assistance to the impacted counties.

Tennessee National Guard Joins in Statewide Cyber Security Exercise

Nashville, TN – This week, Soldiers and Airmen of the Tennessee National Guard are taking part in a statewide exercise focused on cyber threats.
This is part of the annual joint Tennessee Maneuvers (TNMAN) exercise, working with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee State Guard, and various other state agencies taking place June and July.
“TNMAN exercises one of the three key focus areas of the National Guard – Domestic Operations,” said Lt. Col. Jeffrey Brown, G3 Directorate of Military Support, Tennessee Army National Guard.

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) is urging consumers to be wary of potential price gouging following the severe winter storm that swept across Tennessee over the weekend.
Tennessee’s price gouging laws make it unlawful for individuals and businesses to charge unreasonable prices for essential goods and services including gasoline, food, ice, fuel, generators, lodging, storage space, and other necessities in direct response to a disaster regardless of whether that emergency occurred in Tennessee or elsewhere. Tennessee National Guard looks at Winter Storm Damage Response

Nashville, TN – Late on Presidents Day 2015, 19 members of the Tennessee Army National Guard’s 194th Engineer Brigade, equipped with High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV’s), were called out to perform health and wellness checks on motorists in response to rapidly deteriorating road conditions on two major interstates.
That was two weeks ago, and today, Tennessee Army and Air Guard personnel are still at work aiding state and local responders in efforts to recover from a severe winter storm that swept across the state in two waves.
