AAA reports Gas Prices rise for 27th Consecutive Day

February 23, 2015

Longest streak of gas price increases in over a year

AAATampa, FL – Gas prices jumped another 4 cents last week. The current national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.29. Motorists are now paying 26 cents more a gallon since prices hit a low of $2.03 on January 26th.

“It’s common this time of year to see an increase at the pump,” said Josh Carrasco, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Refineries are conducting their annual spring maintenance, which causes prices to rise due to tightening of supply.” [Read more]

AAA announces Gas Price drop surpasses 100 Consecutive Days

January 5, 2015

AAATampa, FL – Motorists in Georgia, Tennessee, and now Florida welcomed the New Year with gasoline selling below $2.00 a gallon at some filling stations. This begins what could be a year of monstrous savings at the pump after record-high oil production in 2014 pushed crude oil and gas prices to the lowest level in six years.

U.S. gasoline prices were $1.11 more expensive just one year ago. At the beginning of 2014, the national average for regular unleaded was $3.32. Prices rose in the spring due to refinery maintenance and the switch to “summer-blend gasoline,” peaking at $3.70 on April 18th. [Read more]

AAA says some U.S. Drivers may see $2.00 Gas Prices for the Holidays

OPEC Decision causes Oil Prices to Plunge

AAATampa, FL – U.S. motorists in southern and mid-west states could see a handful of gas stations hit the $2.00 a gallon mark just in time for the Christmas holiday season.

OPEC’s failure to cut oil production could cause gas prices to fall by as much as 20 cents. The national average has fallen for 67 consecutive days the longest streak since 2008. The streak of declines is 58 days in Florida, 59 in Georgia, and 16 in Tennessee.

“Drivers in southeastern states, such as Tennessee, may see a select few stations selling gas at or below $2.00 in the coming weeks,” said Josh Carrasco, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The chances of gasoline averaging $2.00 per gallon are highly unlikely. Oil prices would have to drop another $25.00 to $30.00 a barrel before we reach the $2.00 threshold.” [Read more]

AAA reports Gas Prices continue to Fall

November 10, 2014

AAATampa, FL – Motorists saw prices continue to plunge at the pump last week. The national average price for gasoline fell for the 42nd consecutive day Sunday. Meanwhile, the streak of declines is 37 days in Florida, 38 in Georgia, and 39 in Tennessee.

“Cheap gas prices couldn’t come at a better time as millions of Americans make travel plans for the holiday season,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Prices are the lowest in four years, which should influence more people to take a trip, drive farther, or drive instead of fly.” [Read more]

AAA says Gas Prices decline despite Overseas Conflicts

August 18, 2014

AAATampa, FL – Gas prices continued to slide last week. Motorists are finding gasoline at or below $3.20 in metro markets like Columbus, Chattanooga, Memphis, Orlando and Tampa.

“Motorists are reaping the benefits of booming domestic oil production which has provided the cheapest gas prices for August in years,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The price of oil declined slightly last week, so gas prices could slip even more this week.” [Read more]

AAA reports Malysian Airline Crash pushes Oil Prices Higher

July 21, 2014

AAATampa, FL – News that a Malaysian Airliner was shot down quickly put upward pressure on the price of oil. West Texas Intermediate closed the week at $103.13 a barrel on the NYMEX on Friday – an increase of $2.30 from last week.

“Oil rose on concerns that violence could spread in response to the crash,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Gas prices are currently falling more than a half cent a day, but geopolitical tension could slow the rate of discount at the pump this week.” [Read more]
