Costly Spring Gas Price Spike Coming to a Pump Near You

March 3, 2018

AAAWashington, D.C. – For the first quarter of the year, gas prices have been expensive. On average, motorists are paying a quarter more than at the same time last year.

While pump prices have dipped in recent weeks, this is not a trend consumers should expect to linger. AAA forecasts the national gas price average will be as much as $2.70/gallon this spring – a costly pump price Americans have not paid since summer of 2015 when prices hit $2.81.

AAA reports Gas Prices Stay Steady

February 13, 2017

AAATampa, FL Prices at the pump rose slightly this week. The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $2.279 today, up nearly a penny from last week, down 8 cents from a month ago and an increase of 58 cents over last year.

“Low demand is keeping downward pressure on gasoline prices,” said Josh Carrasco, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “OPEC’s cuts are being offset by increases in domestic oil production, high gasoline and oil inventories and a drop in gasoline demand. Gas prices should remain steady in the near-term before taking their seasonal upswing as we head into the spring.”

AAA reports Drivers Paying Highest New Year’s Gas Prices Since 2014

January 3, 2017

AAATampa, FL – The New Year began with increased gas prices reaching today’s average of $2.34 per gallon. Pump prices increased by five cents on the week, by 18 cents per gallon on the month, and are up by 34 cents on the year.

Moving into 2017, retail prices will continue to hinge on the ability of cartel countries to successfully implement production cuts, but retail averages are likely to increase leading up to the summer driving season as seasonal refinery maintenance gets underway this spring.
