Motorists could find the cheapest summer gas prices in ten years
Tampa, FL – Gas prices could finally be reaching their peak as the rate of increase at the pump is beginning to stall. Since last Sunday, the average price for gasoline rose 5 cents in Georgia and 1-cent in Tennessee, but declined 1-cent in Florida.
“Gas prices usually peak by May, but have been rising on the back of crude oil prices and increasing demand,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The price of crude oil has found a new normal around $60.00 a barrel, and it’s likely that gas prices will decline in June. This would be the first time that gas prices peaked after the month of May since 2010.”

1 in 5 plan to purchase a vehicle in 2015
Tampa, FL – Compared to last year, auto sales rose 14 percent in January and five percent in February, due in part to lower gas prices.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is expected to be $2.33 in 2015, down more than a $1.00 per gallon from last year’s average, according to the Energy Information Administration.
“Lower gas prices will save the American family $755.00 this year,” said Duane Williams, product manager, Financial Services, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “That’s extra money that can be put towards a vehicle purchase. We expect to see car sales increase in the next month or two as the snow starts to melt and tax refund checks begin to arrive.” [Read more]

These prices broke the previous lows set in 2009 of $2.63 in Florida, $2.44 in Georgia, and 2.45 in Tennessee.

Hot Weather Heats Up Demand for TVA Power
July 8, 2010
Knoxville, TN — With above-normal temperatures expected throughout the summer across the Southeast, the Tennessee Valley Authority is encouraging consumers to use electricity wisely.
“While we understand air-conditioning is a necessity, increasing your thermostat a few degrees can still keep you comfortable while saving you a few dollars each month,” said Robert Balzar, vice president of Energy Efficiency and Demand Response. “Also, turning off unnecessary lights and appliances will help considerably in reducing peak energy demand across the region.”
Other energy-saving tips include using the “sleep mode” on computers, keeping curtains closed during the day, and operating dishwashers and laundry machines only with full loads and only after 8:00pm.
Residential electricity use in the TVA region ranks among the highest in the nation, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. In 2008, Tennesseans ranked No. 1, consuming an average 1,302 kilowatt-hours a month, compared with a national average of 920 kilowatt-hours. [Read more]
