Land Between the Lakes Facilities Re-Open for 2012 Season

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area begins its 2012 operations on Thursday March 1st, by opening several popular visitor attractions.

The Homeplace, Woodlands Nature Station, Golden Pond Planetarium, and North & South Welcome Stations open their doors March 1st, along with Hillman Ferry and Piney Campgrounds. The Homeplace, Nature Station, and North & South Welcome Stations will be open Wednesday through Sunday during March, and then open seven days a week beginning April 1st. [Read more]

Land Between the Lakes Administrative Office & Golden Pond Visitor Center Holiday Schedule

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – The Golden Pond Visitor Center at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will be open from 9:00am-3:00pm on Saturday, December 24th, and remain closed on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25th. The Administrative Office will be closed Monday, December 26th, in observance of the Christmas holiday.

On New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1st, 2012, the Golden Pond Visitor Center will be closed. The Administrative Office will be closed Monday, January 2nd, in observance of New Year’s Day. [Read more]

Temporary Trail Closures at Land Between the Lakes’s Turkey Bay OHV Area

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Due to excessive rainfall, saturated soil conditions, and additional rainfall in the forecast, Land Between The Lakes’ Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area is temporarily closed, as of December 5th, 2011.

Turkey Bay staff will re-evaluate trail conditions as the weather improves. Turkey Bay staff strongly encourages users to “Call Before You Haul” to check current trail conditions at 270.924.2000, then press 3, or visit us on the web at www.lbl.org, then click on Alerts & Notices on the left side of the page.

Land Between the Lakes Honors Veterans November 11th-13th

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will join public lands across the nation in honoring veterans on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11th, through Sunday, November 13th, with free admission or user fee waiver at designated facilities (other fees may apply).

Land Between The Lakes will offer veterans, active and retired members of the armed forces, and their families’ free admission (with military ID) into The Homeplace, Elk & Bison Prairie (EBP), Woodlands Nature Station, and Golden Pond Planetarium. Veterans may pick up their free entry passes for the EBP at the Golden Pond Visitor Center November 11th-13th from 9:00am-5:00pm. [Read more]

More Camping and Lake Access Opportunities Return to LBL

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Camping and lake access opportunities are returning to Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area as flood waters recede. Lake levels for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake are currently at 362.3 feet and dropping.

The majority of campsites are open at Energy Lake Campground; all sites will open by May 20th. Hillman Ferry Campground and Piney Campground expect to open most walk-in sites and reservation sites on May 20th. Each seasonal camper at Hillman Ferry and Piney will be contacted individually as their site becomes available. Areas C, D, and E at Wranglers Campground are open for reservations. There are a very limited amount of walk-in sites available (call campground for availability, 270-924-2200). Wranglers Riding Stables is open, as well as a significant portion of horseback riding trails. Day-use riding is currently available. Rapidly Rising Lake Levels Create More Impacts at LBL

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Tennessee Valley Authority and the Corps of Engineers are predicting unprecedented lake levels for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake rapidly rising to 372 feet by May 4th (13 feet over summer pool) and will be held at this level for a couple of days. The current lake levels are 367.4 feet and are predicted to rise to 370.7 feet by Sunday, May 1st.

These lake levels have caused flooding along all of Land Between The Lakes (LBL) shoreline. As of today, LBL staff closed all boat ramps, and lakeside campsites, trails, and roads. All developed campgrounds will be closed by Sunday, May 1st. These areas will be barricaded and closed for safety of all visitors. Citations will be issued to anyone found beyond barricaded areas. Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Tennessee Valley Authority and the Corps of Engineers are predicting the lake level for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake to rapidly rise to 372 feet by May 2nd (13 feet over summer pool). The current lake level is 363.5 feet and is predicted to rise to 368 feet by Saturday.

This will greatly impact LBL’s boat ramps, campsites (campgrounds, backcountry areas, and self-service areas), trails, and roads. Efforts are underway to barricade and close all impacted areas. [Read more]

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Tennessee Valley Authority and the Corps of Engineers are predicting the lake level for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake to rise to 371 feet (12 feet over summer pool). The current lake level is 359.9 feet. This will greatly impact boat ramps, campsites (campgrounds, backcountry areas, and self-service areas), trails, and roads within LBL. Impacted areas will be barricaded and closed.
