Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission announces Water Fowl Seasons and Fishing Proposals at August meeting

Morristown, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the 2015-16 late waterfowl hunting seasons and was presented the 2016-17 state’s fishing regulations proposals at its August meeting on Friday. In addition, the participants in Tennessee’s 2015 elk hunt were announced.

TWRA announces 2015 Elk Hunt Participants

Morristown, TN – The six persons who will participate in the 2015 Tennessee Elk Hunts were announced during the August meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission held at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Region IV headquarters.
Four of the sportsmen were winners selected in a computer drawing conducted by the TWRA. The four Tennessee residents selected were Trevor Childs (Knoxville), Roy Bivens (Tellico Plains), Andrew Coffey (Crossville), and Forest Landers (Afton). TWRA reports Spring Turkey Harvest again passes 30,000 mark

Nashville, TN – Tennessee turkey hunters passed the 30,000 harvest mark for the 13th straight year during the spring season which concluded May 17th across the state.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports that the 2015 harvest stands at 31,429. Numbers continue to trickle into the Agency.
The harvest currently stands a little less than the 2014 harvest of 32,495 and 2013’s 32,489. [Read more]
TWRA Officer Wayne Rich receives Shikar-Safari Award

Nashville, TN – Wayne Rich, of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, has been honored by the Shikar–Safari Club International as its 2014 Tennessee Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
Rich serves as a wildlife officer in Jefferson County. He was recognized at the May meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission.
The annual award from the conservation-based organization honors the officer whose efforts during the year display outstanding performance and achievement among TWRA law enforcement personnel.

Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission sets Two Buck Limit for State’s 2015-16 Hunting Seasons

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission (TFWC) has voted to reduce the white-tailed buck limit for the 2015-16 seasons. Deer hunters will now be able to take a total of two bucks throughout the deer hunting seasons.
After months of discussion and consideration, the action came during the TFWC’s May meeting which concluded Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Ray Bell Region III Building. [Read more]

TWRA announces 2014 Waterfowl Blind Permit Drawings to be held August 2nd

Nashville, TN – Tennessee’s long-standing tradition of hand-drawn duck blind drawings will be held at the regular sites across the state on Saturday, August 2nd.

TFWC to hold Special Meeting on August 1st to discuss Early Migratory Bird Hunting Seasons

Nashville, TN – A special called meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission (TFWC) will be held via conference call on Friday, August 1st at 11:00am (CDT). The only item on the agenda is in regard to Proclamation 14-10 (early migratory bird hunting seasons).
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) approved the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s and the Mississippi Flyway Council’s request to increase the early wood duck and teal hunting daily season bag limit from 4 to 6 (no more than two wood ducks) and also allow the addition of teal-only hunting days to this season. The approval came at a meeting of the USFWS in late June. [Read more]
Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission returns to Nashville for February 2014 Meeting

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission will be presented with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s new strategic plan proposal during its February meeting.
The TFWC will be returning to Nashville and the TWRA Region II Ray Bell Building after holding its January meeting in Memphis. Committee meetings will be held (Thursday) February 13th at 1:00pm while the formal TFWC meeting is (Friday) February 14th at 9:00am. [Read more]
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency honors fishing icon Bill Dance

Nashville, TN – Bill Dance, a Tennessee native and national fishing icon, has been honored for his many contributions to the sport of fishing and as a long-time proponent and supporter of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and its efforts to manage and improve fishing in the state.
The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission and TWRA expressed their gratitude to Mr. Dance with a resolution during the January TFWC meeting that was held at the Ducks Unlimited National Headquarters in Memphis, TN.
