Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is welcoming comments for its 2020-22 fishing regulations. This is an opportunity for the public to share ideas and concerns about fishing regulations with TWRA staff.
The comment period concerning fishing regulations will be open from Monday, April 1st through Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019.

Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission makes Regulatory Changes due to Chronic Wasting Disease Confirmation

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission (TFWC) has made regulatory changes in response to the confirmation of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in deer in Fayette and Hardeman counties. The changes came at a special called meeting of the TFWC on Thursday (December 20th) at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency headquarters.
The commission voted to establish a CWD management zone which currently includes Fayette, Hardeman, and McNairy counties. The commission took action to create deer carcass exportation restrictions and a restriction on feeding wildlife within the high risk area of the CWD management zone, exceptions apply.
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports a preliminary positive detection of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in white-tailed deer in Hardeman County and Fayette County.

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announces thats sportsmen will have the opportunity to participate in Tennessee’s inaugural statewide archery, private lands only/antlered only deer season from August 24th-26th, 2018.
The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission voted at its May meeting to establish this short season to give hunters an opportunity to harvest a buck with velvet-covered antlers.

Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission holds July Meeting in Chattanooga

Chattanooga, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission held its July meeting and among the agenda items, heard a report on a chronic wasting disease (CWD) plan, a report on a long-range deer strategic plan, and a reservoir fisheries habitat update.
The TFWC was holding its first meeting since May and returning to the Scenic City for the first time since October 2015.
Greg Wathen, of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency director’s office, gave a report to the commission on the progress of the TWRA chronic wasting disease (CWD) Response Plan draft. The plan is divided into four areas.

Dan Gibbs, Joshua Roberson receive 2017 Wildlife Award

Nashville, TN – Dan Gibbs and Joshua Roberson have been honored by being named the 2017 TWRA Wildlife Biologist of the Year and Wildlife Technician of the Year, respectively.
The annual awards are presented by the TWRA Wildlife and Forestry Division. Division Chief Mark Gudlin announced the winners at the January meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Asian Carp update presented at December TFWC Meeting

Hardeman County, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission received an update on Asian carp among its agenda items at the final meeting of the calendar year which concluded Friday.
The TFWC met for the first time at Lone Oaks Farm in Hardeman County near Bolivar and Middleton, which is operated by the University of Tennessee.

TFWC announces Elk Hunt Winners, Commercial Fishing Proposals at August Meeting

Crossville, TN – The participants in Tennessee’s 2016 elk hunt were announced at the August meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission which concluded Friday. The TFWC was also presented a preview of next year’s 2016-17 proposed commercial fishing regulations, and update on recommendations for cervid deer carcass importations as they pertain to states with chronic wasting disease (CWD).
Tennessee began its elk hunt in 2009 with the participants selected from a computer draw. At its May meeting, the TFWC approved the addition of an archery only elk hunt which will be held October 3rd-7th.

Tennessee Hunting Seasons set at May Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Meeting

Tullahoma, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the state’s 2016-17 hunting seasons at its May meeting which concluded Friday at the Arnold Air Force Base Gossick Leadership Center.
The state’s hunting seasons are annually established each year during the TWFC’s May meeting. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency made its recommendations during the April meeting. Additional recommendations were made by commission members.
New Officers elected during February TFWC Meeting

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission elected its new officers for 2016-17 during its one-day February meeting on Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Region II Ray Bell Building.
Harold Cannon (Lenoir City) will serve as the 2016-17 chairman after he was vice chairman this past year. Jamie Woodson (Lebanon) moves from serving as secretary to vice chairman. David Watson (Lookout Mountain) was elected as the TFWC’s new secretary.
Jim Bledsoe (Jamestown) holds a plaque of appreciation he received for his service as chairman of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission. Chairman Bledsoe will continue as a commission member and is pictured with the newly-elected TFWC officers for 2016-17. To Mr. Bledsoe’s left is Vice Chairman Jamie Woodson (Lebanon), and to his right are Chairman Harold Cannon (Lenoir City), and Secretary David Watson (Lookout Mountain).

Portions of Northwest Tennessee Closed for Young Sportsman Deer Hunt
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission has voted to close portions of northwest Tennessee for this weekend’s Young Sportsman Deer Hunt due to severe flooding along the Mississippi River.
The commission met via conference call on Thursday morning to discuss the flooding in areas in the West Tennessee area and how it would impact this weekend’s scheduled two-day Young Sportsman Deer Hunt.
“The flood waters in West Tennessee, occurring uncharacteristically during deer hunting season, offered a unique challenge as the commissioners and agency strive to protect wildlife but still offer as much opportunity as possible,” said TWRA Executive Director Ed Carter. “After hearing from constituents about deer being stranded on high ground, the commissioners asked for a teleconference briefing and asked multiple questions ranging from the impact to the deer herd to those who might pursue deer in flooded areas.” [Read more]
