Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) continues to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak closely.
At this time, most State Driver Services Centers remain open and the Department is currently taking precautions to protect the health and safety of our customers and employees.

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Reminds Tennesseans to Beware of Deceptive Websites

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) warns Tennesseans to exercise caution when searching online for driver services information.
Tennesseans should be aware that deceptive, yet legal websites publish misleading information containing unofficial guidance on how to renew a driver license in order to scam customers into paying renewal fees.
Tennessee 2015-16 Hunting and Fishing Licenses Now Expired

Nashville, TN – Tennessee’s 2015-16 hunting and fishing licenses are now expired, as of Monday, February 29th. The new 2016-17 licenses went on sale February 18th and are valid through February 2017.
Licenses are available at Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) regional offices, license agents, on the TWRA website, www.tnwildlife.org, and at the TWRA “On the Go App” and charged to a credit card. Licenses may also be ordered by telephone and charged to a credit card by calling 1.888.814.8972.

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced beginning January 4th, 2016, Tennesseans will be able to renew their driver license every eight years instead of five years. The change will include all classifications of driver licenses and identification licenses.
The legislation to increase the renewal years was proposed during the 2015 legislative session. Senator Nicely and Representative Goins introduced the bill to help decrease wait times and improve customer traffic flow at driver services centers.

License and ID holders may submit emergency contact information into new online driver license system
Nashville, TN – New forms of technology launched this year by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security have resulted in improved customer service and reduced wait times inside the state’s driver services centers. But the new technology is also increasing the safety of citizens.
A new feature available through online driver services is designed to assist citizens in emergency situations. Driver license and state identification card holders may submit emergency contact information online that will be added to the driver license data base. [Read more]

Nashville, TN – Legislation designed to save money and cut down on the time spent renewing driver licenses moved forward this week in the House of Representatives.
As many Tennesseans note, despite technologies that allow licenses to be renewed online or in mobile kiosks, driver license centers across the state are often overcrowded.
House Bill 198 seeks to help solve this problem by moving the driver license renewal period from five to eight years. As the law stands now, Tennessee has among the shortest periods of time that a license is valid when compared to other states. Most states already have either a seven or an eight year license.

Tennessee Department of Safety issues New Driver License or ID Cards due to Printing Error

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced that it had re-issued new permanent driver licenses or photo ID cards to citizens who recently received a card with incorrect content due to a printing error.
The driver licenses or ID cards were incorrectly issued with the phrase “Not for Federal Identification” to 3,500 Tennesseans. The cards were issued to citizens who applied or renewed their driver license or ID card at state driver services centers on February 17th through February 19th. [Read more]
TWRA reports 2014-15 Tennessee Hunting and Fishing Licenses now Expired

Nashville, TN – Tennessee’s 2014-15 hunting and fishing licenses are now expired, as of Saturday, February 28th. The new 2015-16 licenses went on sale February 18th and are valid through February 2016.
Licenses are available at Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) regional offices, license agents and on the TWRA website, www.tnwildlife.org.
The new licenses annually go on sale each February 18th. License sales provide the primary funding for the TWRA, which does not receive any funding from the state’s general fund (i.e. state sales tax). Licenses purchased before July 1st are available at current prices. [Read more]

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) announced Monday it is aggressively seeking men and women who are interested in careers in law enforcement for a new Trooper Cadet Class slated to begin March 1st, 2013.
Applications will only be accepted online from Wednesday, October 3rd through Wednesday, October 10th, 2012. Individuals interested in applying for the position of State Trooper must be at least 21 years old, a U.S. Citizen and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
