Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse ServicesNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS), in partnership with both the U.S. and Tennessee Interagency Councils on Homelessness, today released an action plan to end chronic homelessness in the Volunteer State.

The collaborative plan brings together multiple federal, state, county, and local government agencies, and community partners providing a systematic approach to help eliminate homelessness over the next 10 years.

1,451 Tennesseans Die from Drug Overdoses in 2015

Tennessee Department of HealthNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Health data show 1,451 people died from drug overdoses in the state in 2015.

This is the highest annual number of overdose deaths recorded in state history and brings the five-year total for Tennessee to 6,036 lives lost. That figure is approximately the equivalent of every person on 40 mid-size jet liners dying.

Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services - TDMHSASNashville, TN – In observance of National Depression Screening Day, October 8th, 2015, the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services is encouraging all adults, 18 years of age and older, to take a free online screening for depression.

In Tennessee, it is estimated that more than 347,000 people over the age of 15 experienced symptoms of major depression in the last year, experiencing feelings of sadness, hopelessness, emptiness, or irritable moods that significantly interfered with their daily routines.

Tennessee Department of Health reports New Law Restricts amount of some Powerful Drugs that can be Dispensed in Tennessee

Tennessee Department of HealthNashville, TN – Effective this month, under a new Tennessee law, prescriptions for opioid pain medicines and benzodiazepine medicines may not be dispensed in Tennessee in quantities exceeding a 30-day supply.

The new limits apply to all dispensers of these medications, including pharmacies, dispensaries and mail-order programs located either in or out of Tennessee. [Read more]
