Nashville, TN – Good evening Tennesseans. It’s Christmas week, ordinarily a time when families across the state are gathering to celebrate. Unfortunately, these are not ordinary times.
We are in a global pandemic that’s been crippling our country for months and now Tennessee is ground zero for a surge in sickness. I am speaking with you tonight because I want to be clear with where we are and what we need to do together to get through this.
Tennessee Department of Human Services announces Summer Food Service Program Expanded to Provide Meals During COVID-19 Pandemic

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) is announcing an extension to its summer program to provide meals to children.
With the recent approval from the USDA, sponsors of Tennessee’s Summer Food Service Program now have the ability to offer meals to their communities throughout the entire 2020/2021 school year.

USDA has extended the Summer Food Service Program to help Feed Children during the Fall, Winter, and Spring.
American Stroke Association lists Five ways to Reduce Stroke Risk

FDA Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update: November 24th, 2020

Silver Spring, MD – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continued to take action in the ongoing response to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic:
On November 20th, the FDA approved an abbreviated new drug application for succinylcholine chloride injection USP 200 mg/10 mL, which is indicated, in addition to general anesthesia, to facilitate tracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation.
Tennessee Department of Education releases 2019-20 ACT State Results. Participation Rate Data

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Education released the ACT state results and participation rate for the 2020 graduating class.
Participation remained relatively stable with 62,564 graduates taking the ACT, and the state average composite ACT score for 2019-20 school year is 19.9, also relatively stable from the average composite score of 20.0 for the 2019-2019 graduating class.

AAA says Fewer Americans Traveling this Thanksgiving due to COVID-19

Orlando, FL – Thanksgiving will be on the lighter side when it comes to the typical number of travelers on the roads and at airports. According to AAA Travel, effects of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, including health concerns and high unemployment, are impacting Americans’ decisions to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.
With health and government officials stressing that staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting sick, AAA anticipates at least a 10% drop in travel – the largest one-year decrease since the Great Recession in 2008.
