Tennessee State Fire Marshal says 20 Fire Fatalities make January 2018 Tennessee’s Third-Deadliest Month Since 2010

Nashville, TN – The latest tally* of January fire fatalities has the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) urgently renewing its call that residents turn their focus to fire prevention during the high-risk winter months.
Current SFMO data indicates that 15 fatal fires caused 20 fatalities in Tennessee during January 2018, making it the third-deadliest month for fire deaths since 2010 (December 2016 had 24 deaths; January 2010 had 21 deaths). Historically, January leads all other months in residential fires, heating fires and fatal fires in Tennessee.

Gallatin, TN – The Tennessee Board of Regents reaffirmed its confidence in the quality of its colleges Thursday, approving a warranty guaranteeing that future graduates of technical training programs demonstrate skills identified in their curriculums and providing tuition-free retraining for those who don’t.
The new warranty provides one-time retraining free of charge to graduates of technical programs who are unable to perform one or more of the skills and competencies identified for their programs.

Murfreesboro, TN – The number of homeowners insurance claims from lightning strikes and electrical surges in the United States rose in 2016, compared with 2015; however, the average cost that insurers paid on those claims fell, according to a new analysis by the Insurance Information Institute(I.I.I.).

TWRA announces 2017 NASP State Championships return to Murfreesboro

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) will hold its 11th state championships at the 2017 event set for March 30th-31st in Murfreesboro, TN.
The NASP State Championships will be returning to the Tennessee Miller Coliseum for the eighth consecutive year. A record field of close to 1,900 students is expected to participate. The students will be representing more than 90 schools.

National Association of Realtors reports Existing-Home Sales Jump Again in October

Washington, D.C. – Existing-home sales ascended in October for the second straight month and eclipsed June’s cyclical sales peak to become the highest annualized pace in nearly a decade, according to the National Association of Realtors®.
All major regions saw monthly and annual sales increases in October.

TFWC announces Elk Hunt Winners, Commercial Fishing Proposals at August Meeting

Crossville, TN – The participants in Tennessee’s 2016 elk hunt were announced at the August meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission which concluded Friday. The TFWC was also presented a preview of next year’s 2016-17 proposed commercial fishing regulations, and update on recommendations for cervid deer carcass importations as they pertain to states with chronic wasting disease (CWD).
Tennessee began its elk hunt in 2009 with the participants selected from a computer draw. At its May meeting, the TFWC approved the addition of an archery only elk hunt which will be held October 3rd-7th.
TWRA Elk Hunts to take place October 3rd – 7th and October 17th – 21st.
