U.S. Representative Mark Green Urges Action to Ensure Dover Tennessee Veterans Receive Care of Grateful Nation

Washington, D.C. – After the Veterans Affairs Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) clinic in Dover, Tennessee abruptly closed its doors more than three weeks ago, the community still has received no answers regarding the future of the clinic.
Representative Mark Green sent the following letter to Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie requesting answers on the clinic’s September 15th closure and urging action to ensure that Dover’s veterans receive the honor and care of a grateful Nation:
IRS Warns of Back-to-School Scams; Encourages Students, Parents, Schools to Stay Alert

Atlanta, GA – The Internal Revenue Service today warned taxpayers against telephone scammers targeting students and parents during the back-to-school season and demanding payments for non-existent taxes, such as the “Federal Student Tax.”
People should be on the lookout for IRS impersonators calling students and demanding that they wire money immediately to pay a fake “federal student tax.” If the person does not comply, the scammer becomes aggressive and threatens to report the student to the police to be arrested.

IRS reports Tennessee top in the Nation with the most Electronic Filed Tax Returns

Atlanta, GA – As the April 18th income-tax filing deadline approaches, “Tennessee has once again, set a record with the most electronic filed tax returns ever at this period and is tops in the nation,” said IRS Spokesman Mark Green. “We had estimated that Tennessee, would file 2.6 million efile tax returns for the whole calendar year. Thus far, Tennessee has filed over 2.2 million efile tax returns,” said Green.
Most taxpayers have already filed their 2015 returns. For those who have yet to file, the IRS says don’t panic.
IRS Has $17 Million for Tennessee Taxpayers Who Have Not Filed a 2012 Tax Return

Atlanta, GA – Refunds totaling $950 million may be waiting for an estimated one million taxpayers in the nation who did not file a federal income tax return for 2012. In Tennessee, over $17 million in unclaimed refunds awaits 19,700 individuals. However, to collect the money, a return for 2012 must be filed with the IRS no later than Monday, April 18th 2016.
“Time is running out if you want to get your refund,” said IRS Spokesman Mark Green. “Taxpayers should review their 2012 statements for refundable credits and withholdings. We want all taxpayers to get the refund they’re due.”
IRS says 2016 Tax Season opens January 19th for Nation’s Taxpayers

Atlanta, GA – Following a review of the tax extenders legislation signed into law last week, the Internal Revenue Service announced today that the nation’s tax season will begin as scheduled on Tuesday, January 19th, 2016.
The IRS will begin accepting individual electronic returns that day. The IRS expects to receive more than 150 million individual returns in 2016, with more than four out of five being prepared using tax return preparation software and e-filed. The IRS will begin processing paper tax returns at the same time. There is no advantage to people filing tax returns on paper in early January instead of waiting for e-file to begin.

“We are seeking 168 temporary seasonal IRS Contact Representatives to work primarily with taxpayers and their representatives through telephone contact.” said IRS Spokesman Mark Green. New law affects WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam War Veterans
Nashville, TN – The Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs, Many-Bears Grinder and the Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman will be presenting a high school diploma to Korean War Veteran, William Milton Duncan Wednesday, June 19th at 10:30am in the Senate Library in the State Capitol.
Mr. Duncan was drafted in 1951 and began serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. Due to his military service, Mr. Duncan left high school a few days before completing requirements for his diploma. [Read more]
