Washington, D.C. – In December 2019, a novel (new) coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2 (“the virus”) was first detected in Wuhan, Hubei Province, People’s Republic of China, causing outbreaks of the coronavirus disease COVID-19 that has now spread globally.
The Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) declared a public health emergency on January 31st, 2020, under section 319 of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 247d), in response to COVID-19.
AAA reports National Gas Price Average remains unchanged in January

Tampa, FL – AAA says that despite crude oil price fluctuation and growing geopolitical concerns with Iran in the last week, the national gas price average has held steady at $2.58 since the beginning of the year. Today’s national average is two cents more than last month and 34-cents more expensive than the beginning of 2019.
“A healthy and growing level of domestic gasoline stocks alongside decreasing demand are two factors helping to minimize gas price fluctuations,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson.

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Gas Price average is $2.36 which is three cents less than last week, but six cents higher than one month ago and 37 cents higher than one year ago.
Despite crude oil price fluctuation and growing geopolitical concerns with Iran in the last week, the National Gas Price Average average has held steady at $2.58 since the beginning of the year.
AAA reports Tension Between the United States, Iran Leads Crude Prices to Temporary Spike in Oil Prices

Tampa, FL – AAA says crude oil prices have spiked and dropped twice in the past six days. The first spike occurred last Friday following a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad, which killed Iran’s Major General Qassem Soleimani.
Prices spiked again on Tuesday when over a dozen missiles were launched by Iran at military bases in Iraq that house American soldiers in retaliation for the drone strike.

Crude Oil Prices Spike Following Attacks on Saudi Arabian Oil Facilities

Over the weekend, Saudi Arabia experienced drone attacks on two major oil facilities – including the world’s largest, Abqaiq. The attacks have taken 5.7 million (crude) barrels per day off the market, accounting for about 6% of the global supply.
Pump Prices Push Cheaper for a Another Week

Tampa, FL – Today’s national average is $2.73. While this is two cents more expensive than on the same day last month, it is three cents cheaper than last week and 12-cents less expensive than a year ago.
“Gas prices this month are on average a dime less expensive than in July 2018. These less expensive gas prices have encouraged summer road trips as evidenced by robust demand numbers since May,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson.
AAA reports Gas Price Increases at the Pump Slowing Across the Country

Tampa, FL – On the week, AAA says all but eight states saw gas price averages push cheaper or remain stable. At $2.76, the national gas price average is three cents less expensive than last Monday. This is the first time in four weeks that the national average has seen a weekly decline.
“Gasoline stocks remain robust amid a recent dip in demand, which could be one reason we are seeing pump prices starting to roll back,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson.
