Land Between the Lakes to Host Birding Bonanza May 11th

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area invites all bird lovers to Woodlands Nature Station for a Birding Bonanza on Saturday, May 11th.
Enjoy guided walks, learn to identify common birds, get tips on attracting birds to your backyard, go on a scavenger hunt, enjoy face to face encounters with Nature Station’s birds, and more! All programs are free with Nature Station admission.
Land Between the Lakes announces Winter 2011 Eagle Viewing Trips

Golden Pond, KY – Bundle up in your favorite sweater, come outdoors, and experience the enchanting sights on a bald eagle viewing trip, offered again at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area throughout the winter months.
Back by popular demand, LBL hosts a weekend of river cruises January 14th-15th, and a special Martin Luther King, Jr. Day cruise January 16th, for up close views of the eagles from the water. [Read more]
Autumn Comes Alive During LBL’s Fall Frolic on Saturday, November 5th

Golden Pond, KY – Enjoy the changing colors and cooling temperatures at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area, when you help Woodlands Nature Station (NS) celebrate the fall season, Saturday November 5th, 2011.
The “changing of the season” celebration, called Fall Frolic, will feature a variety of environmental education events and fun filled activities, including fall hayrides and live music. “Fall Frolic is the perfect opportunity to bring the whole family outside to enjoy the fall weather and participate in a variety of fun outdoor programs and activities,” said Carrie Szwed, Public Programs Coordinator at the NS. Annual Hummingbird Festival Returns to LBL’s Woodlands Nature Station

Golden Pond, KY – Come out to Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area and witness the migration of the Ruby-throated hummingbird during the annual Hummingbird Festival Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 5th-7th, at Woodlands Nature Station (NS).
“Hummingbird migration in this area is at its peak in August,” said NS Interpreter Carrie Szwed. “A large number of hummingbirds stop here on their journey south to Mexico and Central America. During this time, up to 200 hummingbirds visit our feeders in a single day. The festival is an opportunity to be a part of this awesome event.”
Cool and Crawly Critters Day July 16th

Golden Pond, KY – Celebrate the lives of some of our favorite Woodland Neighbors on Saturday, October 23rd, at the 16th Annual Howl-O-Ween children’s program at the Nature Station in Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area.
Enjoy the non-scary side of Halloween with this kid-friendly daytime environmental education program. Dress in your favorite costume and take a guided hike along our character trail where the animals of the forest will “come alive” before your eyes. Meet friendly Shelly the Skunk and Bandit the Raccoon who will entertain you with their woodsy wisdom and wit.
Land Between The Lakes Celebrates Wolf Week October 10th-16th

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area is celebrating Wolf Week the entire week of October 10th-16th. Join us at the Woodlands Nature Station (NS) to learn more about these intelligent, awe-inspiring, and rare animals. Fun, educational programs will be featured throughout the week for wolf enthusiasts of all ages.
The NS participates in the Red Wolf Recovery Program, a captive breeding program for the endangered red wolf. “Red wolves were once declared officially extinct in the wild. Thanks to recovery efforts, they have been reintroduced into a wildlife refuge in North Carolina. Yet, red wolves are still designated as a critically endangered species. Wolf Week is an opportunity to learn about how LBL is helping in the recovery of these amazing creatures,” said Carrie Szwed, Public Programs Coordinator at the NS.
