TWRA Officers make 18 Boating Under the Influence Arrests during Operation Dry Water

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials remind all those who visit the state’s waterways for the July 4th holiday to be safe for what is annually one of the busiest boating times of the year.
TWRA officials emphasize the use of personal flotation devices (PFDs) while boating in a safe and responsible manner. The TWRA wants all those who visit the waterways to have an enjoyable time. However, TWRA officers will be on the watch for dangerous boating behavior, such as boating under the influence (BUI) and other reckless operation. [Read more]
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Operation Dry Water set for the Weekend of June 22nd-24th

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be participating in Operation Dry Water, June 22nd-24th. Operation Dry Water is a national weekend of Boating Under the Influence (BUI) education and enforcement directed toward reducing alcohol and drug-related accidents and fatalities.
Operation Dry Water is held on a weekend near the July 4th holiday to give BUI enforcement high visibility during the peak boating season. The TWRA is teaming with the U.S. Coast Guard and the State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). Operation Dry Water is being held for the fourth year after being launched by the NASBLA in 2009.
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports Memorial Day Weekend free of Boating Related Fatalities

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is reporting that there were no boating-related fatalities reported over the 2012 Memorial Day holiday weekend.
During the Memorial Day holiday period from Friday, May 25th through Monday, May 28th, there were eight total reported boating accidents. Five of the accidents resulted in injuries and the other three were property damage accidents. [Read more]

Nashville, TN – Memorial Day holiday weekend is regarded as the unofficial start to the summer boating season and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency wants to emphasize the use of life jackets while boating in a safe and responsible manner.
Annually, the Memorial Day weekend is one of the year’s busiest boating weekends. Last year over the holiday weekend, there were no boating fatalities. There were six reported accidents, two of which resulted in injuries. [Read more]
Weather Dampens State’s Labor Day Holiday Weekend Boating Activities

Nashville, TN – The weather, for much of the Labor Day holiday weekend, put a hamper on boating activities across the state.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reported three boating accidents with injuries and three others which resulted in property damage. TWRA reports 31 BUI Arrests over July Fourth Holiday

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reports that officers made 31 boating under the influence (BUI) arrests and cited 16 operators for reckless/negligent operation statewide over the 2011 July 4th holiday.
There were no reported fatalities from boating accidents, however TWRA officers statewide responded to several drowning calls that were found to be swimming-related. [Read more]
Man convicted in Kentucky Lake Fatal Accident receives his sentence

Nashville, TN – A Montgomery County man convicted earlier this fall of charges stemming from a fatal boating accident on Kentucky Lake in 2009 has received his sentence which will include jail time, probation, and community service.
David Ray Phelps, of Woodlawn, received his sentence at a hearing December 6th in Henry County Circuit Court in Paris. Phelps was found guilty of vehicular homicide, aggravated assault, reckless operation of a motor boat and boating under the influence (BUI). The verdict came after a lengthy jury trial in Henry County.
A bass boat Phelps, 37, was operating, struck a pontoon boat occupied by seven family members on July 2nd, 2009. Sandra R. Adams, 47, was killed and her daughter, Meghan Adams, 16, was seriously injured. [Read more]
