Tennessee Consumer Affairs says be Wary of Price Gouging following January Storm

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) is urging consumers to be wary of potential price gouging following the severe winter storm that swept across Tennessee over the weekend.
Tennessee’s price gouging laws make it unlawful for individuals and businesses to charge unreasonable prices for essential goods and services including gasoline, food, ice, fuel, generators, lodging, storage space, and other necessities in direct response to a disaster regardless of whether that emergency occurred in Tennessee or elsewhere. Tennessee National Guard looks at Winter Storm Damage Response

Nashville, TN – Late on Presidents Day 2015, 19 members of the Tennessee Army National Guard’s 194th Engineer Brigade, equipped with High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV’s), were called out to perform health and wellness checks on motorists in response to rapidly deteriorating road conditions on two major interstates.
That was two weeks ago, and today, Tennessee Army and Air Guard personnel are still at work aiding state and local responders in efforts to recover from a severe winter storm that swept across the state in two waves.

Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office says Take Fire Safety Seriously During Winter Storm

Nashville, TN – As winter tightens its grip on the Volunteer State this week with hazardous sub-zero temperatures, the State Fire Marshal’s Office reminds Tennesseans how crucial it is to keep fire safety in mind as weather conditions worsen.
“Brutally cold weather can drastically increase fire risks during what is already a peak season for residential fires,” said Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak. “It is crucial to make fire safety a priority in and around our homes to avoid the devastation that can accompany frigid temperatures.” [Read more]
LBL Re-opening delayed following Winter Storm Closure

Golden Pond, KY – Offices and facilities at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area planned to re-open to the public on Thursday, but following road assessments, this will not take place.
“We may not open facilities to the public this week,” stated Area Supervisor, Tina Tilley. “Woodlands Trace has not been treated at all, and roads leading into the facilities, as well as the parking areas, remain ice covered. Our staff is trying to clear access to these areas. As road conditions improve, we will post an update on our website, www.lbl.org, about LBL facilities opening status.” [Read more]
