Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission returns to Nashville for February 2014 Meeting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission will be presented with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s new strategic plan proposal during its February meeting.

The TFWC will be returning to Nashville and the TWRA Region II Ray Bell Building after holding its January meeting in Memphis. Committee meetings will be held (Thursday) February 13th at 1:00pm while the formal TFWC meeting is (Friday) February 14th at 9:00am. [Read more]

Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission amends Commercial Fishing Proclamation at March Meeting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved an amendment to the commercial fishing proclamation among business at its March meeting held Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Region II Ray Bell Building.

TWRA Assistant Fisheries Division Chief Frank Fiss presented Proclamation 13-02. The amendment added black carp to the list of commercial fish species, modified commercial fishing hours on embayments of Kentucky Lake, and changed gillnet mesh size regulations. [Read more]

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission approves 2012-13 Hunting Seasons

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission set the state’s 2012-13 hunting seasons during its May meeting which concluded Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Ray Bell Region II Building.

Among the changes, Tennessee sportsmen will see an increase in deer and bear harvest opportunities.

In regard to white-tailed deer hunting, the TWRC approved the TWRA’s proposal to increase the antlerless archery season bag limit in Unit B to four deer per season. [Read more]

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRAJackson, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission amended the Statewide Non-protected Wildlife Proclamation concerning the eradication of wild hogs and heard updates on fisheries among business at its September meeting which concluded Friday.

Concerning the eradication of wild hogs, landowners have voiced concerns that the persons who had leased their land for hunting had expected to be able to have the opportunity to kill a hog. The landowners were concerned they will lose the income produced from these leases. [Read more]

TWRC to set 2011-12 Waterfowl Hunting Season at August Meeting to be held in Kingsport

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The 2011-12 Tennessee waterfowl hunting seasons will be set at the August meeting of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission. The meeting will be held August 24th-25th (Wednesday-Thursday) at the Meadow View Conference Center in Kingsport.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s proposals for 2011-12 will be presented to the commission. The proposals list very few changes in regard to the agency’s waterfowl recommendations with the exception of minor date adjustments to accommodate calendar changes. [Read more]

TWRA to close Catoosa WMA for Safety Concerns

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced that Catoosa Wildlife Management Area located in Cumberland, Morgan, and Fentress counties will be closed to all public access effective Monday, August 8th, 2011. TWRA officials believe this closure is necessary to ensure the safety of visitors using Catoosa WMA and agency employees working in the area.

Since late June, vandals have placed nails, spikes, and nail-boards in fields, secondary roads, and trails on the WMA. TWRA officials believe this vandalism may be a reaction by a small group of individuals dissatisfied with recent changes in the management of wild hog populations on Catoosa. [Read more]

2011 Sport Fishing Regulations set at October TWRC Meeting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission approved the state’s 2011 sport fish regulations during its October at Pickwick Landing State Park.

The new regulations established by the TWRC on Thursday (October 28th) will be effective March 1st, 2011. Among the new regulations for 2011 include:

Slat baskets must be checked at least every 72 hours.

Shovelnose sturgeon may not be harvested. This means that all species of sturgeon must be released immediately.

15-inch minimum length limit on largemouth bass at Great Falls Reservoir. [Read more]
