TWRA enacts Chronic Wasting Disease plan

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is enacting the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Response plan, following a preliminary positive detection of CWD in white-tailed deer in Hardeman County and Fayette County. The response plan involves a coordinated effort between TWRA, Tennessee Department of Agriculture, and other partners.
Seven deer in Fayette County and three in Hardeman County have preliminarily tested positive for CWD. Additional samples are being tested and the TWRA is actively trying to contact the hunters who harvested these deer.

TWRA reminds Hunters of Importation Restrictions to help keep Tennessee Chronic Wasting Disease Free

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is reminding hunters, who travel beyond the state border, that they must be mindful of import restrictions before they return home. The restrictions are in an effort to keep chronic wasting disease (CWD) out of Tennessee.
The TWRA is concerned about hunters who pursue big game out of state in the cervid family, which includes white-tailed deer, elk, and moose. Currently, 24 states and two Canadian provinces are CWD positive.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency wants hunters to know the importance of importation restrictions.
LBL 2013-2014 Archery Season

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area archery deer seasons open in September.
All hunters must possess State Hunting License/Deer Permit, LBL Hunter Use Permit (age 16 and over), and a Hunter Safety Card according to KY or TN state regulations.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission approves 2012-13 Hunting Seasons

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission set the state’s 2012-13 hunting seasons during its May meeting which concluded Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Ray Bell Region II Building.
Among the changes, Tennessee sportsmen will see an increase in deer and bear harvest opportunities.
In regard to white-tailed deer hunting, the TWRC approved the TWRA’s proposal to increase the antlerless archery season bag limit in Unit B to four deer per season. [Read more]
