University of Tennessee Study shows Tennessee’s Uninsured Number Up Slightly, But Still Near 20-Year Low

University of TennesseeKnoxville, TN – A University of Tennessee, Knoxville report released today shows that Tennessee’s overall uninsured rate increased from the 2016 level of 5.5 percent to 6 percent in 2017.  Nonetheless, the reported uninsured rate is still at one of the lowest levels in the past two decades.

The report entitled The Impact of TennCare: A Survey of Recipients, 2017, released by UT’s Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research, summarizes findings from a survey conducted between May and July 2017.

Tennessee’s Uninsured Numbers Decline for Third Year according to UT Study

TennCareKnoxville, TN – For the third year in a row, the estimated number of uninsured people in Tennessee dropped, according to a report released today by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research, which is housed in the Haslam College of Business.

The percentage of uninsured people in Tennessee—5.5 percent—is the lowest in the past 20 years.

Community water fluoridation is a proven prevention strategy fundamental to health equity and optimal health for all and the science is clear: Fluoride provides substantial benefits throughout our lives at a low cost, with $1.00 spent on fluoride saving $38.00 in future dental treatment costs.
