Tennessee Receives Grant from Federal Government to Address Opioid Crisis

Tennessee Division of TennCareNashville, TN – The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that Tennessee is one of 10 states to receive the Maternal Opioid Misuse (MOM) Model grant. 

The purpose of this Model is to assist states in combating the nation’s opioid crisis and address fragmentation in the care of pregnant and postpartum Medicaid beneficiaries with opioid use disorder (OUD).

American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – According to new research published in the New England Journal of Medicine and funded by the American Heart Association, the leading voluntary health organization devoted to a world of longer, healthier lives, taking one daily pill that combined medications to treat high blood pressure and high cholesterol lowered heart disease risk among underserved patients better than taking several separate medications to treat these risk factors.

Neighborhood factors may predict Heart Failure

American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – Neighborhood-level socioeconomic factors in low-income areas may significantly predict heart failure risk beyond individual health factors and socioeconomic status, according to new research in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, an American Heart Association journal.

The study compared census tract data on socioeconomic deprivation – a clustering of neighborhood-level variables of wealth, education, occupation and housing patterns – and heart failure rates among 27,078 middle-aged whites and African-Americans from the Southeastern states.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Aviation and THP Special Operations respond to Cummins Falls State Park to Rescue Critical Teen

13 year old rescued and flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center

Tennessee Highway Patrol - THPNashville, TN – Yesterday, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Aviation and members of the THP Special Operations Unit responded at the request of Jackson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to respond to Cummins Falls Park Services to perform a hoist rescue.

The THP Aviation was advised that a 13 year old female had fallen down a steep ravine and was unconscious upon landing. The female victim was resuscitated by EMA and Cummins Falls Rangers.

Governor’s Highway Safety OfficeTennessee – May is designated as national Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol joined to share a unified message: Share the Road.

“As the weather gets warmer, more and more motorcyclists will be on the road,” said Governor’s Highway Safety Office Director Kendell Poole. “It takes everyone working together to stay safe. Motorcyclists take extra precaution with protective gear and being aware of their surroundings. We are asking all other drivers to do their part and take the extra time to look twice.”
