Tennessee Working to Grow Food Program During This Time of Need

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) is recruiting more centers and organizations to serve their communities as sponsors of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

The Child and Adult Care Food Program is a valuable resource for Tennesseans who need additional nutritional support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
TDOE Partners with Hoonuit to Provide Families Access to School Meal Finder

Nashville, TN – In response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) is partnering with Hoonuit to make available a school meal site finder, SchoolMealFinder.com, for Tennessee families to find the closest meal pick up program available to them.
“We know this is a difficult time for Tennesseans and we want to provide relief for the thousands of students who rely on school meals by providing a tool to help families find meal pick-up sites as easily as possible,” said Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn.

American Heart Association Praises USDA for Moving Sodium Standards Forward

Washington, D.C. – American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown issued the following comments today on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) memo to state agencies responsible for school meal programs.
The memo outlines the next phase of lowering sodium and sets target two for school year 2017-2018:

CARDIAC ARREST occurs when the heart malfunctions and stops beating unexpectedly. Cardiac arrest is an “ELECTRICAL” problem. A HEART ATTACK occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked. A heart attack is a “CIRCULATION” problem. A blocked artery prevents oxygen-rich blood from reaching a section of the heart. If the blocked artery is not reopened quickly, the part of the heart normally nourished by that artery begins to die. (American Heart Association)
