Tennessee Historical Commission Awards Grants to Preserve Historic Sites
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Historical Commission has awarded 31 grants from the federal Historic Preservation Fund to community and civic organizations for projects that support the preservation of historic and archaeological resources.
“Tennessee’s treasured historic places make our state unique and contribute to our quality of life,” said Patrick McIntyre, state historic preservation officer and executive director of the Tennessee Historical Commission. “These grants will help protect the sites for future generations to study and enjoy.”
TWRA announces 2013-14 Winter Trout Stocking Schedule

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced its 2013-14. TWRA plans to release approximately 90,000 rainbow trout into Tennessee waters from December through March.
The program provides numerous close to home trout fishing opportunities for anglers during the winter months. These fisheries also provide a great opportunity to introduce children or first-time anglers to fishing. [Read more]

West Tennessee Guard units leaving next week

Nashville, TN – National Guard units from Trenton and Union City leave next week on the first leg of a trip taking them first to Fort Bliss, Texas, then initially to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Both are part of the 194th Engineer Brigade commanded by Brig. Gen. Jeff Holmes. 175 soldiers of the 230th Engineer Battalion in Trenton will depart the Trenton National Guard Armory at 5:00am Wednesday, August 17th. The 164 soldiers of Union City’s 913th Engineer Company leave from the Union City Armory at 9:00am the following morning, August 18th. [Read more]
Benefit Poker Run for The Fort Campbell Fisher House

Union City, TN – The 12th Annual Joker’s Wild Poker Run and Bike Show will be held Saturday, August 20th, at Graham Park in Union City, TN, to benefit The Fort Campbell Fisher House. $20.00 Per Hand includes Poker Run, Meal, Door Prize Ticket and entry into the Bike Show.

More National Guard units headed Overseas

Nashville, TN – Two more units of the Tennessee National Guard, totaling almost 350 soldiers, have received mobilization orders and will deploy in approximately two weeks. They are bound for Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Both are West Tennessee Engineer units.
The 175 soldiers of the 230th Engineer Battalion in Trenton and 164 soldiers of the 913th Engineer Company in Union City are scheduled to deploy in mid-August. [Read more]
