Tennessee Department of Health joins Community Partners to offer Free Testing for National HIV Testing Day

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health joins a coalition of health providers and other partners across the country taking part in National HIV Testing Day Friday, June 27th.
As part of this effort to raise awareness and promote prevention of HIV, TDH is teaming up with Walgreens and Greater Than AIDS to provide free HIV testing at sites across Tennessee June 26th-28th. TDH encourages all sexually active Tennesseans, regardless of age, to get tested for HIV. [Read more]

One Madison County Resident Tests Positive
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed the first case of chikungunya in Tennessee. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention laboratory results show a resident of Madison County tested positive for the virus.
TDH is reminding Tennesseans of the importance of taking precautions to protect themselves from bites from mosquitoes that may spread this and other viruses such as West Nile and La Crosse.
American Heart Association reports most pre-packaged meals, snacks for toddlers contain too much salt

New Orleans, LA – Nearly 75 percent of commercial pre-packaged meals and savory snacks for toddlers are high in sodium, according to research presented at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology and Prevention/Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism 2013 Scientific Sessions.
In the first study to look at the sodium content in U.S. baby and toddler foods, researchers compared the sodium content per serving of 1,115 products for babies and toddlers using data on major and private label brands compiled by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
