American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – According to new research published in Stroke, a journal of the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, Young adults who suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may be more likely to experience a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or major stroke event by middle age, raising the risk as much as other better-known risk factors.

This nationwide study of more than 1.1 million adults showed that PTSD may be a potent risk factor for developing stroke at a young age. (American Heart Association)

Working before and after Stroke is good for Brain Health

American Stroke Association - American Heart AssociationLos Angeles, CA – Adult stroke patients who are employed prior to and after suffering strokes are more likely than unemployed adults to have healthier minds two years post stroke, according to preliminary research presented at the American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference 2018, a world premier meeting dedicated to the science and treatment of cerebrovascular disease for researchers and clinicians.

American Heart Association says Images of Brain after Mild Stroke predict future risk

American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – A CT scan of the brain within 24 hours of a mild, non-disabling stroke can predict when patients will be at the highest risk of another stroke or when symptoms may worsen, according to new research published in the American Heart Association journal Stroke.

Like stroke, a transient ischemic attack (TIA) is caused by restricted blood supply to the brain. Symptoms may last only a few minutes.
