Research from AAA Foundation Finds 60% of Teen Crashes Involve Distraction
Knoxville, TN – Over the past five years, more than 5,000 people have been killed in crashes involving teen drivers during the “100 Deadliest Days,” the period starting at Memorial Day when teen crash deaths historically climb.
As the summer driving season begins, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety is releasing a follow-up study confirming that nearly 60 percent of teen crashes involve distractions behind the wheel.

In recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, AAA warns drivers to put it down, don’t text and drive and avoid any activities that divert attention from the primary driving task.
Any distractions could endanger a driver, passengers, or others sharing the road including bicyclists or pedestrians.

Tampa, FL – In recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, AAA is warning drivers to avoid any activities that divert attention from the primary driving task. Any distractions could endanger a driver, passengers, or others sharing the road, such as bicyclists or pedestrians.
In a recent AAA survey among registered voters in The Auto Club Group territory (general population in North Dakota), their number one concern in regards to keeping the roadways safer was Distracted Driving (78%) followed by Impaired Driving (73%) and Aggressive Drivers (63%).

Motorists Recognize Dangers but Do Little to Alter Behaviors says AAA Foundation
Tampa, FL – Too many Americans report that they regularly speed, run red lights, use distracting devices or drive drowsy, despite the fact that one in three have a loved one who has been seriously injured or killed in a crash, according to the AAA Foundation’s latest Traffic Safety Culture Index.
The results further indicate that unsafe behaviors persist even though one in five drivers have themselves been involved in a serious crash, and one in ten has been seriously injured in a crash.
Tennessee Improves in National KIDS COUNT Ranking on Child Well-Being

Nashville, TN – Tennessee is 36th this year in the annual KIDS COUNT National Data Book ranking on child well-being, better than its 39th ranking in 2013. The state is among the five states with the biggest improvements in overall rankings from 2013 to 2014.
The Data Book rates states on four domains: Economic Well-Being, Education, Health, and Family and Community. Each domain is comprised of four measures. When the most recently available data were compared to those from 2005, Tennessee improved on 10 of the 16 measures; worsened on five and remained the same on one, paralleling national changes.

Program to Educate Teens on Importance of Buckling Up
Nashville, TN – Each year, dozens of Tennessee teens die in traffic crashes and many of those are not wearing safety belts. Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers.
The Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) wants to help save lives by encouraging more teens to wear their safety belts. The GHSO is partnering with State Farm Insurance, Jackson Area Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (JACOA) and four Tennessee high schools to sponsor a program called Click It AND Ticket.
