TWRA announces First Young Sportsman Deer Hunt set for October 26th-27th

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) says the first of two Tennessee young sportsman deer hunts for the 2019-20 season will be held the weekend of October 26th-27th, 2019.
Youth ages 6-16 years of age may participate. Participating youth can use gun, muzzleloader, and archery equipment.
Young sportsmen must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, 21 or older who must remain in position to take immediate control of the hunting device.

TWRA announces 2017-18 Gun Hunting Season for Deer Opens November 16th

Nashville, TN – Tennessee’s 2017-18 gun hunting season for deer opens Saturday, November 18th, 2017. Deer gun season has the traditional opening date of the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving.
During gun season, sportsmen may also use muzzleloader or archery equipment. The season will continue through January 7th, 2018 and the second Young Sportsman Hunt is January 13th-14th.
TWRA Elk Hunts to take place October 3rd – 7th and October 17th – 21st.

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reminds everyone that deer hunting season is nearing its conclusion in Tennessee. The gun season for deer concludes on January 8th while the second Young Sportsman Hunt for 2016-17 is January 14th-15th.
For the Young Sportsman Hunt, youth, 6-16 years of age are allowed to participate. The young sportsmen must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult at least 21 years of age who must remain in a position to take control of the hunting device.

Portions of Northwest Tennessee Closed for Young Sportsman Deer Hunt
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission has voted to close portions of northwest Tennessee for this weekend’s Young Sportsman Deer Hunt due to severe flooding along the Mississippi River.
The commission met via conference call on Thursday morning to discuss the flooding in areas in the West Tennessee area and how it would impact this weekend’s scheduled two-day Young Sportsman Deer Hunt.
“The flood waters in West Tennessee, occurring uncharacteristically during deer hunting season, offered a unique challenge as the commissioners and agency strive to protect wildlife but still offer as much opportunity as possible,” said TWRA Executive Director Ed Carter. “After hearing from constituents about deer being stranded on high ground, the commissioners asked for a teleconference briefing and asked multiple questions ranging from the impact to the deer herd to those who might pursue deer in flooded areas.” [Read more]

Nashville, TN – The first of two Tennessee young sportsman deer hunts for the 2015-16 season will be held the weekend of October 31st-November 1st.
Youth ages 6-16 years of age may participate, Young sportsmen must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, 21 or older who must remain in position to take immediate control of the hunting device. The adult must also comply with the fluorescent orange regulations as specified for legal hunters. Multiple youth may be accompanied by a single qualifying adult. [Read more]

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will host the hunt in conjunction with the opening day of the 2015 Tennessee Young Sportsman Deer Hunt on Saturday, October 31st.
A total of 30 young hunters will be selected to participate in the event to be held in Humphreys County. For the last several years, a landowner has graciously donated his property for these young hunters to have the opportunity to record their memorable harvest. [Read more]
