Tennessee Department of Education’s New COVID-19 District Information Dashboard to Launch Next Week

Nashville, TN – Today, the Tennessee Department of Education (TDE) released plans to report additional COVID-19 Coronavirus information at school and district levels, including numbers of new positive COVID-19 Coronavirus cases in districts and schools.
“Parents and community members are working to make informed decisions, and we have determined the best path that balances informed decision making with our obligation to student privacy,” said Commissioner Penny Schwinn.

Tennessee Department of Education announces $1 Million IDEA Technology Partnership Grant

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Education (TDE) today, Monday, April 27th, 2020 announced a new Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Technology Partnership Grant, making $1 million dollars available for Tennessee school districts to better support the educational needs of students with disabilities by addressing technology needs that are a result of COVID-19 school closures.

Tennessee State Board of Education asks Public to Share Feedback on K-12 Math Academic Standards

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee State Board of Education is inviting the public to provide feedback and comments on the state’s K-12 mathematics academic standards through December 6th, 2019, at 12:00pm CT.
To facilitate suggestions on proposed revisions to the academic standards, the State Board launched a public review survey to allow Tennesseans to share their opinions on the current math academic standards.
Tennessee announces Top Schools for Achievement and Growth for 2012-2013

Reward Schools in 52 districts across the state
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman announced 169 schools as the 2012-13 Reward Schools, the top 5 percent of schools in the state for annual growth and the top 5 percent for academic achievement.
The Reward Schools span 52 districts across the state and include 70 schools that serve mostly economically disadvantaged populations.
“Tennessee continues to set the standard in education reform as we maintain our focus on high levels of achievement and continuous growth,” Haslam said at an event held at Percy Priest Elementary, recognized for its overall academic achievement. [Read more]
