Tennessee’s Community, Technical Colleges assist in project to help protect Health Professionals

Tennessee Board of Regents - TBRNashville, TN – Tennessee’s community and technical colleges are playing a major role in a crash project by the state’s public higher education system to manufacture face shields to help protect Tennessee health professionals during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Using 3D printers, Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology at Elizabethton, Jackson, Morristown, Murfreesboro and Shelbyville,  and Jackson State and Pellissippi State community colleges manufactured 858 headbands from Saturday through Monday afternoon that will be used for plastic face shields.

Effort produces over 1500 pieces of protective equipment in three days.

Private First Class Cecil Garris’ remains recovered in France

Tennessee Department of Veterans AffairsNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder recognize the service and sacrifice of Private First Class Cecil E. Harris of Shelbyville.

Harris was serving with the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division on January 2nd, 1945 when his platoon was holding a defensive position in Dambach, France near the German border during World War II.

TWRA announces 2013-14 Winter Trout Stocking Schedule

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced its 2013-14. TWRA plans to release approximately 90,000 rainbow trout into Tennessee waters from December through March.

The program provides numerous close to home trout fishing opportunities for anglers during the winter months. These fisheries also provide a great opportunity to introduce children or first-time anglers to fishing. [Read more]

Lack of Rain Keeps Some TVA Reservoir Levels Below Normal

Tennessee Valley AuthorityKnoxville, TN – Despite recent rainfall, several reservoirs managed by the Tennessee Valley Authority are experiencing lower water levels due to below normal rain and runoff this spring and may not reach targeted summer recreation levels by June 1st.
