Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confirms Silver Carp in Chickamauga Lake

Nashville, TN – On January 10th, 2020, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) received a report that a silver carp was captured on Chickamauga Lake in October.
The angler, Dustin Hinkle, said the invasive fish “jumped into the boat as I deployed my trolling motor.” Hinkle encountered the fish near the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, and stated he “saw 15-20 more fish near the surface” exhibiting a feeding behavior.

Levels Do Not Indicate a Health Threat
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation reports that results from air monitoring for radioactive isotopes confirm that no threat to public health exists related to the incident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan.
Routine and ongoing air monitoring performed by the state indicates the presence of very low levels of Iodine-131, an isotope linked to the Japanese power plant.
