Tennessee Highway Patrol to increase patrols during Memorial Day Weekend

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) plans to increase patrols and utilize a variety of traffic safety enforcement tools to reduce the number of serious injury and fatal crashes across the state during this year’s Memorial Day holiday period. The THP will conduct saturation patrols, seat belt and sobriety checkpoints, as well as increased visibility on high-crash corridors throughout the summer to reduce serious injury and fatal crashes.
“Memorial Day signals the start of summer travel,” said Colonel Matt Perry. “We are coming out of a pandemic that created severe and unique challenges for us all. With this, we see traffic fatalities on the rise. Now that more vehicles are getting back on the road, we need you now more than ever to drive safe.”

Tennessee Highway Safety Office Reports an All-Time High in Statewide Seat Belt Usage

Nashville, TN – On Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) announced a significant increase in the state’s overall seat belt usage rate, compared to previous years.

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reminds motorists to buckle up and drive sober during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.
State troopers will utilize traffic safety enforcement tools including saturation patrols and sobriety and seat belt checkpoints, to help reduce serious injury and fatal crashes during the holiday weekend.
The St. Patrick’s Day holiday enforcement period starts at midnight, Saturday, March 17th, and ends on March 18th at 11:59pm.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Challenges All Tennesseans to a Call to Action to End Highway Deaths

Nashville, TN – Colonel Tracy Trott of the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) has recorded a Tennessee “Call to Action Traffic Safety Video” requesting a commitment from every Tennessee motorist to be safe. The message is direct: The time is here, the time is now to stop highway related traffic deaths. It is your time to do what you must to protect yourself and your loved ones.
“If you speed, don’t wear your seat belt, drive distracted, impaired or have reckless driver behaviors, then it is time to ask yourself, why? We care about your safety, we ask that you care too. These are questions the THP and law enforcement across Tennessee are asking each and every day. Remember, in 2015 Tennessee had 961 fatalities on our roadways. That is unacceptable. Our goal is to have zero fatalities,” said Colonel Trott.

2015 Traffic Fatalities in Tennessee Third Lowest since 1963

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced the number of traffic fatalities in 2015 is the third lowest annual figure in Tennessee since 1963. The 2015 traffic fatality numbers are reported by all Tennessee law enforcement agencies to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
Preliminary figures indicate there were 965 vehicular deaths on Tennessee roadways in 2015. In 1963, there were 941 deaths. The 2015 fatality number includes 112 pedestrians and 10 pedal cyclists.

Tennessee Highway Patrol reminds Drivers to Buckle Up Tennessee

Nashville, TN – Commissioner Bill Gibbons of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOS&HS), Colonel Tracy Trott of the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Commissioner John Schroer and Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) Director Kendell Poole announced the increase in seat belt fines as an effective additional tool to curb traffic fatalities in the state.
The State Legislature approved a bill during the 2015 session. As of January 1st, 2016 the fine for seat belt violations will more than double. The fine for a first offense seat belt violation will be raised to $25.00 and the second and subsequent offense will be $50.00.

Tennessee State Troopers Will Enforce “No Refusal” Law
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct a “No Refusal” enforcement campaign during this year’s Labor Day holiday period.
This special enforcement effort will begin at midnight on Friday, August 29th and conclude at 11:59pm on Monday September 1st.
The “No Refusal” legislation allows law enforcement officials to seek search warrants for blood samples in cases involving suspected impaired drivers.

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) will conduct a high-visibility enforcement campaign during this year’s Fourth of July holiday period, beginning at 12:01am on Thursday, July 3rd and ending at midnight on Sunday, July 6th.
State troopers will utilize a variety of traffic safety tools, such as driver’s license, sobriety and seat belt checkpoints, saturation patrols, and “No Refusal” enforcement, in an effort to reduce serious injury and fatal crashes on Tennessee roadways.
