TWRA reports Computerized Drawing to take place this year for Duck Blinds, Sandhill Crane Permits

Nashville, TN -The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announces that the procedure for issuing duck blinds and sandhill crane tags this year will be 100 percent online with no in-person drawings due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. The change came in an emergency rule approved by the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission.
This year’s process was changed in an effort to help protect public health since the handheld drawing usually results in large crowds gathering at the various locations around the state.

TWRA announces 2020 Sandhill Crane Festival to be held January 18th-19th

Nashville, TN – The 29th edition of the annual Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival is set for January 18th-19th (Saturday-Sunday) at the Hiwassee Refuge and Birchwood Community Center.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is the primary sponsor for the 29th edition of the festival and many staff members and volunteers will be contributing their services. The festival is a celebration of the thousands of sandhill cranes that migrate through or spend the winter on and around the Hiwassee Refuge in Birchwood as well as an opportunity to focus attention on the rich wildlife heritage of the state and the Native American history of the area.
The 29th Annual Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival is scheduled January 18th-19th at the Hiwassee Refuge and Birchwood Community Center.

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) says the 2018-19 statewide and Reelfoot Zone waterfowl hunting season started December 1st, 2018 and will continue until January 27th, 2019. Most goose seasons will continue through February 10th.
In addition to the traditional waterfowl season, the sandhill crane hunting season also started December 1st. The second-year statewide season continues through January 27th while the southeast zone has a divided season from December 1st-January 17th and January 21st-27th.

TWRA announces 26th Annual Sandhill Crane Festival set for January 14th-15th

Nashville, TN – The 2017 Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival is set for January 14th-15th (Saturday-Sunday) at the Hiwassee Refuge and Birchwood Community Center.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is the primary sponsor for the 26th annual festival and many staff members and volunteers will again be contributing their services. For the sixth year, Olin Chlor Alkali Products is the corporate sponsor for the festival.
The Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival will be held Jan. 14-15 at the Hiwassee Refuge and in the community of Birchwood. It is the 26th anniversary of the event.
Permit Drawing for Sandhill Crane Hunt August 13th; Any Leftover Permits to Go on Sale August 17th

Nashville, TN – A hand-held permit drawing for the fourth sandhill crane hunt in Tennessee will be held on Saturday, August 13th at the Birchwood Community Center (formerly the Birchwood School) in north Hamilton County.
This year’s August drawing is a date change from the October drawings of the previous three years.
If there are leftover permits, the number of permits available will be announced on the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s website on Monday, August 15th.

New Officers elected during February TFWC Meeting

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission elected its new officers for 2016-17 during its one-day February meeting on Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Region II Ray Bell Building.
Harold Cannon (Lenoir City) will serve as the 2016-17 chairman after he was vice chairman this past year. Jamie Woodson (Lebanon) moves from serving as secretary to vice chairman. David Watson (Lookout Mountain) was elected as the TFWC’s new secretary.
Jim Bledsoe (Jamestown) holds a plaque of appreciation he received for his service as chairman of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission. Chairman Bledsoe will continue as a commission member and is pictured with the newly-elected TFWC officers for 2016-17. To Mr. Bledsoe’s left is Vice Chairman Jamie Woodson (Lebanon), and to his right are Chairman Harold Cannon (Lenoir City), and Secretary David Watson (Lookout Mountain).
