Tennessee Department of AgricultureNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Agriculture, United States Department of Agriculture – Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services, Tennessee Department of Health, and University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture today announced the detection of the invasive Asian longhorned tick in an additional six Tennessee counties:  Knox County, Jefferson County, Claiborne County, Cocke County, Putnam County, and Sevier County.

TDOE Releases TNReady Results for 2019

Tennessee Department of EducationNashville, TN –  The Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn has released the TNReady assessment results which indicates that students across the state are performing better in almost all math subjects. 

The TNReady scores also show that more than half the schools in Tennessee – 56 percent – improved their growth scores (TVAAS scores) from the previous year, with 41 percent of all schools earning a level 4 or 5 TVAAS rating which measures year-to-year growth.

TWRA reports 2018 Muzzleloader Season Opening Weekend Nets almost 7,700 Deer Harvested

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee deer hunters had a harvest of 7,683 on the opening weekend of muzzleloader season as reports continued to trickle in Monday, November 5th, 2018 according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

The current harvest number is an increase from the 4,949 recorded on the 2017 opening weekend.

Roane County had the top weekend with a harvest total of 237. Montgomery County was second with 223.

1,451 Tennesseans Die from Drug Overdoses in 2015

Tennessee Department of HealthNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Health data show 1,451 people died from drug overdoses in the state in 2015.

This is the highest annual number of overdose deaths recorded in state history and brings the five-year total for Tennessee to 6,036 lives lost. That figure is approximately the equivalent of every person on 40 mid-size jet liners dying.

Tennessee Highway Patrol announces plan for “No Refusal” Enforcement during New Year’s Eve Holiday Period

December 30, 2014

Tennessee Highway Patrol - THPNashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) will conduct a “No Refusal” traffic safety enforcement campaign during the 2014 New Year’s Eve holiday period, beginning at 12:01am, Wednesday, December 31st and concluding at 11:59pm, Sunday, January 4th.

State troopers will perform saturation patrols, seat belt, sobriety and driver’s license checkpoints and bar/tavern checks during the holiday.

The state statute regarding “No Refusal” allows law enforcement officials to seek search warrants for blood samples in cases involving suspected impaired drivers. [Read more]

TWRA reports Young Sportsman Deer Hunt numbers show slight increase

November 10, 2013

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Harvests from Tennessee’s first Young Sportsman Deer Hunt of the 2013-14 season were very similar to the fall of 2012, showing a slight increase. The youth hunt was held across the state on October 26th-27th.

The young sportsmen harvested 8,484 deer in Tennessee’s 95 counties. The number is up 150 deer from 2012’s 8,334. [Read more]
