Nashville, TN – Many public pools in Tennessee and around the country open for the season on Memorial Day. While swimming is a fun way to be active and beat the heat, thousands of Americans get sick every year from germs found in pools and other swimming places.
The Tennessee Department of Health joins the observance of Healthy and Safe Swimming during the Memorial Day Weekend to spread the word about helping keep swimming sites safe and healthy.

Nashville, TN – While swimming is a fun way to beat the heat and be physically active, thousands of Americans get sick every year due to germs found in the places where we swim.
“We can all help keep our swimming areas safe this summer by following a few easy steps,” said TDH Chief Medical Officer David Reagan, MD, PhD. “Taking precautions like showering before swimming and never letting children swim without supervision helps prevent illness and injuries.”

The public is invited to join the celebration of National Wetlands Month Memorial Day Weekend. According to Darrin Samborski, Environmental Education Specialist at LBL, “A variety of programs focusing on natural encounters with wetland wildlife and habitat conservation will be offered at the NS. Nashville, TN – Taking a refreshing dip in a pool, lake or stream is a great way to beat the summer heat. However, recreational water can hold germs that can make people sick. The Tennessee Department of Health is sharing simple tips to help all Tennesseans stay safe and healthy when swimming this summer.

Know Childrens Whereabouts; Avoid Risky Behavior
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health is issuing an urgent call to parents and adults providing care to keep kids and teenagers from flood waters as well as rivers, lakes and creeks that have higher than normal water levels and strong currents.
The department also is asking people to avoid risky behavior, keeping clear of storm water drains, inlets and pipes whenever possible. Several areas across Tennessee are experiencing flooding or face the possibility of flooding later this week.
