AAA reports Vehicle Safety Systems Struggle to “See” in Bad Weather, Rain

Nashville, TN – New research from AAA finds that moderate to heavy rain affects a vehicle safety system’s ability to “see”, which may result in performance issues.
During closed course testing, AAA simulated rainfall and other environmental conditions (bugs and dirt) to measure impact on the performance of ADAS like automatic emergency braking and lane keeping assistance. View the full report.

AAA says Severe Storms pose Serious Crash Risk

Knoxville, TN – Spring storms can create dangerous driving conditions. AAA – The Auto Club Group is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution while driving during weather events and, if possible, to delay travel until the storm passes.
Trucks, vans, SUVs and trailers are more vulnerable to high wind gusts and could potentially be pushed around or flipped by high winds. If winds are severe, safely pull over onto the shoulder of the road and stop.

Buchanan, TN – The 21st annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament was held in the rain Saturday, May 16th on Kentucky Lake. Boats launched from Paris Landing State Park at 6:00am. There were 212 boats registered for the event and 200 competed for the $12,000 in prize money.
The weather was clear some but mainly held to a steady rain for most of the day with periods of light drizzle. Despite the conditions, the fishermen were in high spirits at the start of the event.

Some highly anticipated fall crops, like pumpkins, have suffered in some parts of the state due to excess moisture and lack of sun. Others, like corn and sorghum, are on track for record harvests if current patterns of sunny, less-humid weather hold.

Nashville, TN – As spring storms pop up this month, the State Fire Marshal’s Office wants to remind Tennesseans to keep safety in mind when lightning and storms are imminent.
“Lightning strikes can cause fires. And, as the season’s warmer weather gives rise to storm activity, we want Tennesseans to know what the risks and precautions are,” says State Fire Marshal and Commerce & Insurance Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak. “It is important to monitor weather conditions and get to a safe place before the climate becomes threatening.”
Land Between the Lakes Lifts Burn Ban Due to Cooler Temperatures and Higher Humidity

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area has lifted the order prohibiting open fires. The burn ban was put in place in June because of high temperatures and limited rainfall.
Continue to play it safe with fire year round. Monitor campfires at all times, and completely extinguish with water, stir the coals, and assure it is cold to the touch before leaving the area. Always use caution when disposing of cigarettes and matches. [Read more]

Lack of Rain Keeps Some TVA Reservoir Levels Below Normal
