Tennessee State Fire MarshalNashville, TN – While summer is the perfect time to break out the grill and spend time with family and friends, the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) is alerting Tennesseans to the dangers that accompany outdoor grilling season.

From 2013-2017, Tennessee fire departments responded to 200 fires involving grills, hibachis, or barbecues. Those fires resulted in four civilian injuries, three firefighter injuries, and $3.4 million in property damage, according to the Tennessee Fire Incident Reporting System (TFIRS).

Tennessee Consumer Affairs, Attorney General Alerts Tennesseans to Potential Propane Price Gouging During State of Emergency

Tennessee Division of Consumer AffairsNashville, TN – Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper and Deputy Commissioner for Tennessee Commerce and Insurance and Acting Consumer Affairs Director Steve Majchrzak are asking all Tennesseans to be alert to potential price gouging on propane during the State of Emergency.

Some individuals may take advantage of consumers by unreasonably or excessively hiking the prices they charge for propane. This illegal practice is called price gouging. [Read more]

Carbon monoxide (CO), often called “the silent killer,” is an invisible, odorless gas created when fuels (such as kerosene, gasoline, wood, coal, natural gas, propane, oil, and methane) burn incompletely. Carbon monoxide can result from camping equipment, such as barbecue grills, portable generators or other fuel-powered devices.
