The Tennessee Department of Health joins the observance of Healthy and Safe Swimming during the Memorial Day Weekend to spread the word about helping keep swimming sites safe and healthy.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has published The Angler’s Guide to Tennessee Fish, a new identification guide on the vast variety of fish species in the state. The new guide is currently available at TWRA offices and online at the TWRA website, www.tnwildlife.org.

Precautions Urged to Prevent Water Illnesses

However, recreational water can hold germs that can make people sick. The Tennessee Department of Health is sharing simple tips to help all Tennesseans stay safe and healthy when swimming this summer.

“Swimming is a great way to exercise, and offers numerous health benefits,” said Health Commissioner Susan R. TWRA to discontinue Bass, Bluegill stocking for Private Ponds, Lakes

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will no longer offer fish (bass and bluegill) for stocking into private ponds and small lakes.

Due to the high cost of raising and distributing private pond fish, in addition to the need to stock more fish into public waters of the state, the agency has decided to discontinue the private pond stocking program. Current pond fish applicants scheduled to receive largemouth bass in the spring of 2011 will be the last for the program. [Read more]
