Henry County unemployment rate was 7.2 percent in August, down 1.0 percent from July’s 8.2 percent.

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce DevelopmentNashville, TN – The unemployment situation in three-quarters of Tennessee’s 95 counties continued to improve in July following business closures earlier in the year due to the COVID-19 health emergency.

Henry County unemployment rate was 8.1 percent in July. That’s down 0.8 percent from June’s 8.9 percent.

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce DevelopmentNashville, TN – Unemployment rates in a vast majority of Tennessee’s 95 counties continued to drop in June, according to new data from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

Seventy-four counties had lower jobless rates for the month, as Tennessee continues to reopen after many businesses closed in the spring to help curb the spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus.

Tennessee Department of EducationNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Education Interim Commissioner Dr. Lyle Ailshie announced today that 76.1 percent of the state’s public high school class of 2019—53,478 students—participated in the department’s third ACT Senior Retake opportunity in October 2018, the state’s highest participation rate on record.

Of those seniors who retook the ACT in 2018, more than 50 percent increased their composite score from their junior year score, a 10.2 percent point increase from 2017.

Tennessee Department of HealthNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Health data show 1,451 people died from drug overdoses in the state in 2015.

This is the highest annual number of overdose deaths recorded in state history and brings the five-year total for Tennessee to 6,036 lives lost. That figure is approximately the equivalent of every person on 40 mid-size jet liners dying.

The Tennessee Department of AgricultureNashville, TN – A quarantine for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive insect that destroys ash trees, has been expanded to seven additional counties in Middle and East Tennessee. Clay, Fentress, Macon, Morgan, Overton, Pickett, and Rhea counties have been added to the list of areas restricted for the movement of ash trees and ash tree products.

This brings the total number of Tennessee counties under a state and federal EAB quarantine to 34.
