Golden Pond, KY – Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area suggest making safety precautions as much of a summer tradition as fireworks on the Fourth of July.

More Camping and Lake Access Opportunities Return to LBL

Golden Pond, KY – Camping and lake access opportunities are returning to Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area as flood waters recede. Lake levels for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake are currently at 362.3 feet and dropping.
The majority of campsites are open at Energy Lake Campground; all sites will open by May 20th. Hillman Ferry Campground and Piney Campground expect to open most walk-in sites and reservation sites on May 20th. Each seasonal camper at Hillman Ferry and Piney will be contacted individually as their site becomes available. Areas C, D, and E at Wranglers Campground are open for reservations. There are a very limited amount of walk-in sites available (call campground for availability, 270-924-2200). Wranglers Riding Stables is open, as well as a significant portion of horseback riding trails. Day-use riding is currently available. Early Squirrel Season Opening at LBL

Golden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area’s 2011 spring squirrel hunting season will be open in Tennessee from May 14th-June 12th and in Kentucky from May 21st-June 17th.
Hunters must have a valid Kentucky or Tennessee state hunting license for the state in which they are hunting, and hunters age 16 and older must also have an LBL Hunter Use Permit. LBL Hunter Use Permits are available at North and South Welcome Stations, Golden Pond Visitor Center, and wherever Kentucky and Tennessee State hunting licenses are sold. [Read more]
Race to the Canal Returns to LBL

Golden Pond, KY – Race to the Canal is set to take place again this year at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area on Sunday, October 24th. This event provides cyclists the opportunity to enjoy an adrenaline rush in the great outdoors!
This mountain bike race is sponsored locally by Wood-N-Wave, Grand Rivers, KY, and sanctioned by the National Off-Road Bicycling Association (NORBA). Race to the Canal is an endurance event that will cover challenging and varied terrain along the North/South Trail from Golden Pond Visitor Center to North Welcome Station. Some expert classes will also race the Canal Loop for a total of 36 miles. [Read more]
