Tennessee Securities Division releases Top Five Investor Threats For 2020

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) Securities Division has announced the top five investment products or schemes likely to trap Tennessee’s investors in the new year and recommended steps they can take to protect themselves from investment fraud.
The list was developed by surveying members of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), of which TDCI is a member, to identify threats investors are likely to see in 2020.

2016 Gas Prices Were Lowest Since 2004
Tampa, FL – The New Year began with increased gas prices reaching today’s average of $2.34 per gallon. The national average has moved higher for 34 of the past 35 days, largely due to market reactions to last fall’s OPEC deal.
Compared to a week ago, pump prices have risen 5 cents nationwide, 9 cents in Florida, 6 cents in Georgia, and 4 cents in Tennessee.
AAA reports average U.S. Gas Prices Begin 2016 Under $2.00 per Gallon

Washington, D.C. – Gas prices rang in the New Year by reaching the lowest average price ($1.997) for the holiday since 2009. Today’s average price of $1.99 per gallon is the cheapest average since March 25th, 2009, and the national average has moved lower for 50 of the past 59 days, largely due to an abundance of crude oil. Pump prices are discounted by fractions of a penny on the week, by five cents per gallon on the month, and are down by 22 cents on the year.
In 2015, consumers paid an annual average of $2.40 per gallon, which was the lowest annual average since 2009.

AAA announces Gas Price drop surpasses 100 Consecutive Days

Tampa, FL – Motorists in Georgia, Tennessee, and now Florida welcomed the New Year with gasoline selling below $2.00 a gallon at some filling stations. This begins what could be a year of monstrous savings at the pump after record-high oil production in 2014 pushed crude oil and gas prices to the lowest level in six years.
U.S. gasoline prices were $1.11 more expensive just one year ago. At the beginning of 2014, the national average for regular unleaded was $3.32. Prices rose in the spring due to refinery maintenance and the switch to “summer-blend gasoline,” peaking at $3.70 on April 18th. [Read more]

America’s Health Rankings Show Improvements In Tennessee
Nashville, TN – Tennessee has shown marked improvements in 12 measures of overall health in the last five years, according to a newly released report, but with a ranking of 48th in sedentary lifestyle among all states, most Tennesseans need to “get moving” to make more progress.
The United Health Foundation’s 23rd annual America’s Health Rankings report lists Tennessee at 39th overall this year. The state moved up two spots from a recalculated 41st in 2011 in the foundation’s evaluation and measures of how states perform in different categories. [Read more]
