Tennessee Department of Health announces WIC program goes electronic with TNWIC card

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Women, Infants and Children (TNWIC) or WIC Program has transitioned from a paper-based method of issuing benefits to an electronic benefit transfer system.
Tennessee families participating in WIC now use their TNWIC cards instead of paper vouchers to purchase WIC-approved foods. TNWIC is now available in all 95 counties of Tennessee.

Tennessee and U.S. Public Housing Smoking Ban Effective July 31st

Nashville, TN – Smoking will be prohibited in public housing units across Tennessee and the U.S. effective July 31st, 2018.
The smoke-free rule is part of a larger plan to decrease building maintenance and smoke-related damage costs, reduce the risk of accidental fires and create healthier environments by reducing exposure to secondhand smoke.
The Tennessee Department of Health reminds Tennesseans who smoke that free help to quit smoking is available through the Tennessee Tobacco QuitLine.

With nearly 4,700 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in Tennessee every year, the Tennessee Department of Health encourages residents to talk with a health care provider on when to schedule their annual mammograms. Mammography screening should begin no later than age 50.
