Tennessee Department of EducationNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Education has awarded $10,497,423 in School Improvement Grant funds to 16 schools that are among the lowest-performing schools in the state in terms of academic achievement.

This is the first year of a three to five year School Improvement Grant award totaling $31,904,500, designed to focus on areas that are most critical in turning around high needs schools – strong leadership, effective instruction, and additional time for learning. These School Improvement Grants are provided through funds from the United States Department of Education and must be used to support the state’s Priority Schools.

State School Bond Authority to provide $126.7 Million in Loans for School Construction and Renovation

Communities across Tennessee will have an opportunity to apply for low-interest loans for school construction and renovation projects through the state’s Qualified School Construction Bond (QSCB) program.

City and county government officials can attend an informational meeting about the application process on May 27th, 2010 at 1:30 pm in Room 29 of the Legislative Plaza in Nashville.

A video stream of the meeting may be accessible via the Internet, if the Tennessee General Assembly is not in session. If video streaming is not available, the meeting will not be recorded for viewing at a later date. [Read more]
