TWRA reports Deer tests Positive for CWD in Crockett County, Hardin County, Dyer County now High-Risk

Nashville, TN – A deer harvested in Crockett County has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD), according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
The CWD-positive deer was a 3 1/2 -year-old buck and changes Crockett County from high-risk to positive for CWD and Dyer County changes to high-risk due to its proximity.
TWRA reports CWD-Positive Deer Found in Gibson County, McNairy County

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announces that Gibson County and McNairy County are now positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD) after confirmation through multiple tests from hunter-harvested deer.
These results change the CWD status of both counties from high-risk to positive and makes Carroll County high-risk because of the proximity to the new positive deer. Number Tennessee Distressed Counties Decreases

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has announced Tennessee has reduced the state’s number of distressed counties to an all-time low as the Lee Administration focuses on targeted interventions for workforce development and infrastructure.
“Early on, we set a goal that we would have less than 10 distressed counties by 2025,” said Governor Lee. “By focusing on workforce development and infrastructure improvements, we are down to nine counties and will continue working to get remaining counties on the path to prosperity.”
TWRA announces Deer Harvest Incentive Program offered in Unit CWD

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation have partnered to offer an incentive program to increase the deer harvest in Unit CWD. The program features two levels of rewards to incentivize deer harvest resulting in a free license for the 2021-22 license year.
The top tier first prize would be a free sportsman’s license for 2021-22. Any hunter who harvests four antlerless deer and four antlered deer through January 8th, 2021 would receive a free Sportsman’s license.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announces Fewest Distressed Counties in Tennessee Since 2007

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced that Tennessee has the fewest distressed counties statewide since 2007, down from 15 in 2019 to 11 counties according to the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
Paris-Henry County under Tornado Watch until late tonight

Nashville, TN – The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Paris-Henry County as well as parts of West Tennessee and Middle Tennessee until 2:00am CT Sunday morning.
Strong to severe thunderstorms may develop late this afternoon though the greatest chance for severe weather will be from 8:00pm tonight through early Sunday morning. All modes of severe weather are possible, including damaging wind gusts, large hail, and a few tornadoes.
U.S. President Donald J. Trump Approves Tennessee Disaster Declaration

Washington, D.C. – Today, Friday, December 6th, 2019, U.S. President Donald J. Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Tennessee and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by a severe storm and straight-line winds on October 26th, 2019.
Federal funding is available to State and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storm and straight-line winds in Benton County, Decatur County, Hardin County, Henderson County, Houston County, Humphreys County, McNairy County, Montgomery County, Perry County, and Wayne County.
Tennessee County Unemployment Rates Increase in July

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) released data that shows July 2019 county unemployment increased in counties across the state.
Henry County unemployment in July was 4.8 percent up 0.3 percent from June’s 4.5 percent.
TWRA reports Deer Season for Private Lands, Special Unit CWD Deer Hunt set for August 23rd-25th

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Tennessee’s statewide three-day archery private lands only/antlered only deer season will be held August 23rd-25th, 2019. In addition, newly-created muzzleloader/archery, antlered only hunt for the new Unit CWD for private lands and selected public lands will take place.
Unit CWD hunting regulations only apply to CWD positive counties of Fayette County, Hardeman County, and Madison County and CWD high-risk counties of Chester County, Haywood County, McNairy County, Shelby County, and Tipton County.
Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission creates CWD Hunting Unit, Implements Science Base Regulations for Disease Management

Nashville, TN – Changes to deer hunting regulation has been made by the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission (TFWC) in continued response to chronic wasting disease (CWD) which was found in three southwestern Tennessee counties last winter.
The commission approved the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s recommendation to establish a new CWD deer hunting unit for the counties in which we have found CWD-positive deer (Fayette County, Hardeman County, and Madison County) and counties within 10 miles of a positive CWD deer location (Chester County, Haywood County, McNairy County, Shelby County and Tipton County).
