Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Commissioner Clay Bright announced today the award of $10,328,312 Transportation Alternatives Grants statewide in Tennessee.

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Senate may be out of session, but Senator Marsha Blackburn hasn’t slowed down one bit! The Senator is spending August in Tennessee meeting with the people she serves and working to determine what she can do in the Senate to make each day better for her state.
Her state visits began in West Tennessee, where she met with fishermen and local officials at Sinclair’s Fish Market in Paris to discuss the problems posed by Asian carp. Senator Blackburn then stopped by UT Martin to meet with Chancellor Keith Carver and members of their Army ROTC program.

Grants and investments to assist communities with local infrastructure and safety
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Govember Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe recently approved nearly $25.5 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which assist communities with infrastructure improvements, health and safety initiatives and façade improvements in downtown commercial districts.

Tennessee Higher Education Commission releases 2016 Labor Education Alignment Education Program (LEAP) Annual Report

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) has released the 2016 Annual Report for the Labor Education Alignment Education Program (LEAP), highlighting the early successes of LEAP in local communities in engaging education and employers to develop a pipeline of skilled workers in Tennessee. The report showcases LEAP as a model for alignment between industry and education.
LEAP is one of the primary initiatives of the Drive to 55, Governor Bill Haslam’s push to grow Tennessee’s postsecondary educational attainment rate to 55 percent by 2025.

Hears Restructured Remediation Success Story
Cookeville, TN – Tennessee Board of Regents colleges are improving success rates for students who come to campus requiring remedial support.
Members of the Tennessee Board of Regents received the news during a report on academic initiatives at the Board’s quarterly meeting on the campus of Tennessee Tech University today.
A pilot program involving almost 1,000 students that began at nine community colleges last year helped the colleges improve students’ successful pass rate of the required freshman math course from about 10 percent to 62 percent overall, and in freshman writing from 30 percent to 74 percent.
