Tennessee Department of Health joins “U=U” in effort to end HIV Epidemic in Tennessee

Nashville, TN – In Tennessee, approximately 18,000 people are living with HIV, and 760 of them were newly diagnosed in 2018. The Tennessee Department of Health is working to increase access to preventive medication and empower HIV-positive Tennesseans to seek and stay engaged in HIV care.
Tennessee Department of Health reports Fewer Infant Deaths in 2018

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health is celebrating the lowest infant mortality rate in the state in three years. TDH data show there were 38 fewer infant deaths in the state in 2018 than in 2017.
Infant mortality is defined as the death of a child before his or her first birthday, and is a critical indicator of the overall health of the state.
Tennessee Department of Health reports First Death from Vaping Associated Respiratory Disease

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health (THD) has reported one death in a patient with serious respiratory disease associated with use of electronic cigarettes or other vaping devices. This is the first such death reported in Tennessee.
“We are extremely saddened by this loss of life and extend our sincere condolences to the patient’s family,” said Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey, MD, MBA, FAAP.
TDH Urges Tennesseans Most at Risk for Hepatitis A to Get Vaccinated

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) and numerous state and local partners continue to investigate and respond to a large, multi-state hepatitis A outbreak.
More than 2,000 cases of hepatitis A have been confirmed in Tennessee, including 13 resulting in the deaths of the patients.
Tennessee Department of Health starts “Tennessee Faces of Opioid Crisis” campaign

Nashville, TN – On July 16th, 2019, the Tennessee Department of Health kicked off the new “Tennessee Faces of the Opioid Crisis” public education and awareness campaign at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville.
This project will feature people from every county of Tennessee sharing personal stories of how they have been impacted by the opioid crisis.
