Tennessee’s 20 Safest Cities of 2018

SafewiseSalt Lake City, UT – Tennessee may be home to some of the highest crime rates in the country, but as the latest FBI report details, it’s also home to safe havens. The database identifies more than twenty cities and towns with violent crime rates that fall below two per 1,000 people.

At the same time, all but three of those cities reported property crime rates below the national average.

New Officers elected during February TFWC Meeting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission elected its new officers for 2016-17 during its one-day February meeting on Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Region II Ray Bell Building.

Harold Cannon (Lenoir City) will serve as the 2016-17 chairman after he was vice chairman this past year. Jamie Woodson (Lebanon) moves from serving as secretary to vice chairman. David Watson (Lookout Mountain) was elected as the TFWC’s new secretary.

Jim Bledsoe (Jamestown) holds a plaque of appreciation he received for his service as chairman of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission. Chairman Bledsoe will continue as a commission member and is pictured with the newly-elected TFWC officers for 2016-17. To Mr. Bledsoe’s left is Vice Chairman Jamie Woodson (Lebanon), and to his right are Chairman Harold Cannon (Lenoir City), and Secretary David Watson (Lookout Mountain).

Tennessee’s Soggy Summer Doesn’t Dampen Fall’s Farm Fun

The Tennessee Department of AgricultureNashville, TN – “We grew 134 varieties of pumpkins and gourds this year, plus the prettiest mums we’ve had yet,” said Andrew Dixon, farmer and operator of Granddaddy’s Farm near Nashville. “The rain didn’t hold us back. In fact, the corn maze is taller and greener, and everything is better than it’s been since we’ve opened the place—I think even the racing pigs run faster!”

Tennessee’s cool, rainy summer may have been a mixed blessing for farmers, helping some crops and hampering others, but now that fall is here, the state’s agritourism operators see no downside. [Read more]
