Lamar Alexander says FDA-Approved COVID-19 Vaccine is the Way to Stop More Deaths
September 9, 2020
Washington, D.C. – Senate health committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today said “an FDA-approved COVID-19 Coronavirus vaccine is the way to stop more deaths, while the unpleasant alternative is to let the epidemic run its course until everyone is either killed or recovered,” during this morning’s committee hearing on the role of vaccines in preventing infectious disease outbreaks and protecting public health.
“What is new about dealing with epidemics is modern medicine, including the ability to diagnose the disease and then to create treatments to make it easier to recover,” Alexander continued. “But the true miracle of modern medicine is vaccines, which can prevent humans from acquiring the disease at all.”

“The 108-question FAFSA is one of the biggest challenges low-income students who want to go to college face,” Alexander, chairman of the Senate education committee, said. “Former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam told me that Tennessee has the highest rate of filling out the FAFSA, but it is still the single biggest impediment to more students enrolling in Tennessee Promise, our state’s free, two-year community college program.”

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA)
Nashville, TN – The introduction of the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (S.3223) has been introduced this week in the United States Senate. Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander is one of the co-sponsors of the bipartisan legislation that recommends funding for those fish and wildlife species of greatest conservation need across the country.
“Senator Alexander has championed several wildlife-related issues specific to Tennessee and his leadership on this national issue will be instrumental,” said Ed Carter, executive director of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. “His longtime personal interest in wildlife and the outdoors allows a unique personal connection as an advocate for this critical legislation.”

Scientists estimate that one third of all U.S. wildlife species are already imperiled or are vulnerable. Habitat loss, invasive species, and severe weather have all taken a severe toll on birds, mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, butterflies, and bees. All types of wildlife are declining—in many cases dramatically. We need urgent action to protect vulnerable wildlife. The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act is the solution we need.
