New Officers elected during February TFWC Meeting

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission elected its new officers for 2016-17 during its one-day February meeting on Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Region II Ray Bell Building.

Harold Cannon (Lenoir City) will serve as the 2016-17 chairman after he was vice chairman this past year. Jamie Woodson (Lebanon) moves from serving as secretary to vice chairman. David Watson (Lookout Mountain) was elected as the TFWC’s new secretary.

Jim Bledsoe (Jamestown) holds a plaque of appreciation he received for his service as chairman of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission. Chairman Bledsoe will continue as a commission member and is pictured with the newly-elected TFWC officers for 2016-17. To Mr. Bledsoe’s left is Vice Chairman Jamie Woodson (Lebanon), and to his right are Chairman Harold Cannon (Lenoir City), and Secretary David Watson (Lookout Mountain).

Portions of Northwest Tennessee Closed for Young Sportsman Deer Hunt

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission has voted to close portions of northwest Tennessee for this weekend’s Young Sportsman Deer Hunt due to severe flooding along the Mississippi River.

The commission met via conference call on Thursday morning to discuss the flooding in areas in the West Tennessee area and how it would impact this weekend’s scheduled two-day Young Sportsman Deer Hunt.

“The flood waters in West Tennessee, occurring uncharacteristically during deer hunting season, offered a unique challenge as the commissioners and agency strive to protect wildlife but still offer as much opportunity as possible,” said TWRA Executive Director Ed Carter. “After hearing from constituents about deer being stranded on high ground, the commissioners asked for a teleconference briefing and asked multiple questions ranging from the impact to the deer herd to those who might pursue deer in flooded areas.” [Read more]

Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission sets Two Buck Limit for State’s 2015-16 Hunting Seasons

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission (TFWC) has voted to reduce the white-tailed buck limit for the 2015-16 seasons. Deer hunters will now be able to take a total of two bucks throughout the deer hunting seasons.

After months of discussion and consideration, the action came during the TFWC’s May meeting which concluded Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Ray Bell Region III Building. [Read more]
