Tennessee Needs at Least $54.8 Billion of Public Infrastructure Improvements

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee needs at least $54.8 billion worth of public infrastructure improvements during the five-year period of July 2018 to June 2023—a $4.8 billion (9.7%) increase from the year before—according to a new report by the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR).

Tennessee Department of Transportation gets $16 Million Federal Transit Grant

Tennessee Department of Transportation - TDOTNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has been awarded a $16.2 million grant for Buses and Bus Facilities by the U.S. Department of Transportation. TDOT applied for the grant on behalf of 10 transit agencies in coordination with the Tennessee Public Transportation Association.

The grant will assist these agencies with the replacement of vehicles that have exceeded their useful life.

Tennessee State GovernmentElizabethton, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam today highlighted the 20 percent reduction to the grocery tax included in the newly implemented IMPROVE Act by visiting local grocery stores in Elizabethton and Mount Juliet.

Effective July 1st, 2017 the IMPROVE Act, “Improving Manufacturing, Public Roads and Opportunities for a Vibrant Economy,” creates the largest tax cut in state history while delivering a safe, reliable and debt-free transportation network.

Reconnect to offer last-dollar scholarship for adults without degrees to attend community college

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – In his seventh State of the State address to the Tennessee General Assembly, Governor Bill Haslam introduced his proposal to make Tennessee the first state in the nation to offer all Tennessee adults without a degree access to community college tuition-free – and at no cost to taxpayers. 

If the Tennessee Reconnect Act is approved, Tennessee would become the first state in the nation to offer all citizens – both high school students and adults – the chance to earn a post-secondary degree or certificate free of tuition and fees.
