TWRA says 2015 WWA Big Game Quota Hunts application period ends July 23rd

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is announcing that the application deadline is nearing for the 2015 Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Big Game Quota Hunts, the regular elk, youth elk, and WMA youth hunts. Entries must be submitted before midnight (CDT) on Wednesday, July 23rd.
The WMA hunting instruction sheet lists locations and dates for each of the quota hunts along with drawing rules and regulations.
Instruction sheets can be obtained and applications made for the hunts at any TWRA license agent, TWRA regional office or online at the TWRA website, www.tnwildlife.org. Mailed instruction sheets will not be processed into the drawing system. [Read more]

Preliminary Figure Mark Fewest Fatalities on Record
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced a preliminary figure that indicated six people were killed during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, compared to 16 fatalities during last year’s Thanksgiving Day holiday period.
If the 2011 preliminary number holds true, it will mark the lowest number of fatalities on record during the Thanksgiving holiday. Previously, the fewest number of vehicular fatalities was seven, which occurred during the 1983 Thanksgiving Day period.

State Troopers will strictly enforce Seat Belt Usage
Nashville, TN – Sixteen people lost their lives on Tennessee roadways during last year’s Thanksgiving Day Holiday period. That’s why the Tennessee Highway Patrol will be hitting the roads, along with millions of Americans, in a high-visibility, safe driving enforcement campaign for the 2011 Thanksgiving Day Holiday.
Beginning at 6:00pm, Wednesday, November 23rd through midnight Sunday, November 27th, State Troopers will saturate the interstate systems and high-crash corridors across Tennessee, placing an emphasis on impaired driving, seat belt usage, and traffic law compliance.
Tennessee Joins Neighboring States to Fight Prescription Drug Abuse, Trafficking

Nashville, TN – In an effort to fight prescription drug abuse and misuse in Tennessee, representatives from the Governor’s Office, Department of Safety and Homeland Security, and the Department of Mental Health on Wednesday attended the first meeting of the Interstate Prescription Drug Task Force in Ashland, KY.
Tennessee joins Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia in forming a multi-state alliance to fight prescription drug abuse on several fronts.
Law enforcement officials consider prescription drug abuse an increasing problem in Tennessee, which consistently ranks as one of the top states in the country for the use of prescribed medications. [Read more]
