Nashville, TN – On Thursday, June 23rd, 2021, the Tennessee Department of Education announced $4.5 million in Grow Your Own grants has been awarded to establish partnerships between Educator Preparation Providers (EPPs) and local school districts and create innovative pathways to becoming a teacher in Tennessee for free.

Marsha Blackburn announces Grant to Expand Broadband Access between Memphis and Nashville

Washington, D.C. – Today, Tuesday, June 16th, 2020, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) announced that ten counties in West Tennessee and Middle Tennessee would receive an $11.2 million grant through the Department of Transportation’s Infrastructure for Rebuilding America program.
The grant, the direct result of a request made by Senator Blackburn earlier this year, will fund approximately 143 miles of fiber optic communications on I-40 between Memphis and Nashville.

Austin Peay State University expanding reach into underserved communities with new Center for Rural Education

Clarksville, TN – In his retirement, Dr. Philander Claxton, the former U.S. Commissioner of Education under Presidents Taft, Wilson and Harding, felt a lingering nostalgia for his time in Clarksville, where he served as the second president of Austin Peay Normal School. He retired from the school in 1946.
“I accepted the presidency of Austin Peay Normal School because it had been founded for the purpose of preparing teachers for the rural schools,” the 90-year-old Claxton wrote in 1953. “As long as I was president, I did all I could to hold it to that purpose, which was and still is the most difficult and important part of an educational system.”

AT&T Expands High-Speed Internet in Communities across Tennessee

Nashville, TN – AT&T* has expanded internet access in communities throughout Tennessee to better serve those in rural and urban areas alike.
As part of our FCC Connect America Fund commitment, AT&T has deployed high-speed internet service to rural and underserved locations in parts of 51 counties serving more than 37,000 Tennessee locations.
For much of this rural deployment, AT&T is using its Fixed Wireless Internet service. Launched in Tennessee in June of 2017, this innovative service delivers an internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps to homes and small businesses.

TWRA announces Antlerless Deer Hunting available on Private Lands only in L Counties, January 8th-12th

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced that antlerless deer hunting will be allowed on all privately owned lands in Unit L counties January 8th-12th, 2018. This is the third year for the five days of hunting following the completion of the deer season on January 7th.
Privately owned lands include leased land and lands owned by individuals.

Nashville, TN – Antlerless deer hunting will be allowed on all privately owned lands in Unit L counties January 9th-13th. This is the second year for the five days of hunting following the completion of the deer season on January 8th.
Privately owned lands include leased land and lands owned by individuals. It is the responsibility of hunters to obtain verbal or written permission to hunt on privately owned lands.

TWRA reports Spring Turkey Harvest again passes 30,000 mark

Nashville, TN – Tennessee turkey hunters passed the 30,000 harvest mark for the 13th straight year during the spring season which concluded May 17th across the state.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports that the 2015 harvest stands at 31,429. Numbers continue to trickle into the Agency.
The harvest currently stands a little less than the 2014 harvest of 32,495 and 2013’s 32,489. [Read more]
TWRA announces 2015 Spring Turkey Season begins Saturday, April 4th

Nashville, TN – Tennessee’s 2015 spring turkey season opens on Saturday, April 4th and continues through Sunday, May 17th. When it comes to the forecast for the season, sportsmen can look forward to what is expected to be another good year in terms of harvest numbers.

TWRA reports close to 165,000 Deer Harvested during 2014-2015 Seasons

4,473 Deer Harvested in Henry County
Nashville, TN – Close to 165,000 deer were harvested in Tennessee during the recently completed 2014-15 seasons according to data gathered by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
The statewide gun season concluded January 4th and the youth hunt followed on January 10th-11th. The harvest numbers range from the start of archery season on September 27th, 2014 through the final youth hunt. [Read more]
